TopTV Bugs and Peeves

eish guys having the biggest problem hey paid on time as usual but I dont have no picture at all on the first channels called them now to report the guy I spoke too Mbuso was also not very clued up I'm not a dripping panty but sometimes people can really make u lose hope..............missed about a weeks worth of Entourage and also a few movies I wanted to watch..............any suggestions?

Well guys I got some news to share hey and I could not believe it myself.........yesterday I called the centre to report my above mentioned post before 6 as requested so I left earlier at work rushed home to call Top TV cause Mbuso mentioned they can only assist me when I'm at home as I had to do something & so forth so anyway I call them up speak to a consultant and she informs me dat nothing can be done as no-one can fix it only their tech department she places me on hold for no reason for about 5 minutes and then comes back and tells me the exact same thing...........anyway promises to have someone from their tech dept. call me back within a few minutes and still waiting for the call still have the same issues so what am I suppose to do now? I've paid them already so I guess I'm stuffed till next month hey wonder if I can ask to be reimbursed half my money cause I'm only getting like less of the channels.........anyway what else can I do? Suggestions?

Yes! There are some freezes, now and then. And I do not like the Slim People on BBC, but otherwise I am getting all the channels.

Please do not compare DSTV to TOPTV, they have been around for years, their EPG, has also gradually changed, from just providing the NOW and NEXT info, to providing almost a Weeks Worth of info, and you still cannot watch your favourite channel whilst browsing what's happening on other channels.

Basically, what I am saying is, Please give TOP TV a chance, at least now you are able to compare, and you are getting some improvements on DSTV as well thanks to TOP TV. I have not cancelled my DSTV, But I will not ditch TOP TV just because ...

Dont think it beats my problem.
3 weeks now & still not activated.
Been calling speaking to "whoever", still no help.
Worked for 10 minutes then died, that was 6 days ago.
From TopTV operator "It will be fixed with the next hour", still waiting.

I've only had one issue - the BSOD (Black screen of death :D ) but only for a few seconds.

The rest has been pretty good barring some terrible weather we had recently. I guess it's to be expected that rain would make it a little iffy.

I haven't ever noticed the progress bar not being correct - perhaps that's something specific to a decoder? Surely if it was a software issue it'd hit all of them?

The progress bar works well, but only in accordance with the EPG, which seems to have corrected itself now on the Top specific channels. In terms of rain outtage, I think TopTV fares better than DStv

However, the reason this thread was started is so that TopTV knows what people's concerns are.

Personally, I do not have the time, patience or drive to call TopTV every time I have a quam with their service. So, that is why I resorted to this method of airing my concerns.

I have been with TopTV since 16 May and I am quite pleased with it. It gives me more to watch at less of a cost than I would by making an upgrade on my DStv account. Instead of paying R529 - R232 = R297 more to move from Compact to Premium, I only pay R99 (or R159 from next month) for 24 to 35 channels more. In total I now have 68 channels to choose from (or 79 by July) for much less than I would have had to pay with DStv's full bouquet.

Some might choose to bury their heads in the sand over these niggling technical issues, but some (like me) would actually like to have them fixed. The ones who inform TopTV of these problems (in my opinion) are the ones who will actually assist TopTV in moving forward. If TopTV are going to add new channels, increase the functions on the STB and start their HD channels, I think they should do so when their system is properly functioning. How will they know this if we are not telling them what problems exists? Who knows, the existing problems could actually hinder further developments - so better fix these problems now (earlier rather than when a whole load of functions start being introduced - by then they will be concentrating on problems of the new functions).

I am not thinking of abandoning TopTV at all, not now, not in the future. My intention is actually to migrate fully to TopTV. But, with these problems still persisting - I can’t. For instance, if I was only on TopTV, I couldn't have watched the Bafana game on the 31st of May. I am glad I kept my DStv subscription active because my area has terrible terrestrial broadcast reception.:p
 
Restoring Top TV decoder to factory defaults

My decoder freezed on Welcome to STB screen for two days and I could not get hold of call center so I played around with decoder until I pressed the menu+forward arrow buttons simultaneously and the decoder prompted if I wanted to restore factory defaults and pressed yes. prompted to restart decoder, so I unplugged and plugged or switch off and on at plug for decoder, stb started as if it was first installation, pressed ok for all following steps until I got my picture back on all channels. Try it. Sorry for that swi

However, on the matter of peeves - you had to fiddle around to get the reset done.

One of the other problems that I have got is that the decoder does not have a reset button on it. I have always read and been warned that unplugging an electronic item directly is dangerous. It could short circuit it and 'poof' you've got no decoder anymore - and there is not warranty against this.

Also, I cannot see which channel I'm on if the decoder TV is off. I want to tune into my channel on my other TV and the only way I know I have done it right is if the decoder TV is on (I see it on the TV screen). This is a real schlerp.

Sent u my number no one called, call ur call centre still waiting to be called (3rd day today) I think you need to re look what you saying call the call centre, cause if it worked we would not posting on this thread right now. I think our expectations is really high as customers sometimes too high but then again if you guys atleast communicated to with us it would have been another case. I work within the customer service field I know what service means and sometimes our copany also fails but we try right now it does not look like anyone is trying. What is the SLA's for service request?

I am happy with the service that TopTV offers.

I have also noticed that the call centre number is no longer as busy as it used to be, so I will try and call the number (0860 086 788) when I have got a serious problem.

Further, I noticed that programme information has been improved e.g. on Current.... (my favorite channel these days), there are less prolonged blackouts and programme information is more often than not, correct.

Please continue with these improvements.

Also, kindly bring to attention other issues in this thread to your technical guys i.e. issues such as:
- The orange dot in the EPG that does not stay in line with the channel
- Picture optimization (those long faces are really annoying)
- Sound volume (we understand that adverts have to be run but perhaps a little more discrection can be used) and
- Blinking screen i.e. blacking out for a couple of seconds (2 seconds) which I noticed happens consistently on Current….

Otherwise, I have noticed that things are improving.

I hope the channels also improve soon – i.e. with regards to sport.
 
Morning gentleman what a weekend I had my TOP TV is now worst hey and da wifey is now angry with me.......lol.......told me we should have opted for DSTV instead......well anyway this is how the story goes on Saturday I get home after work watch a movie cause my dish is off........get a call at about 17H00 from Top TV about my problem so after going through everything with the very helpfull consultant she informs me dat she is unable to assist me and the tech department will call me back.............anyway I get the call back from them yesterday at about 10 in the morning and brief them once again on my problem I follow all the instructions and the lady tells me to stay on the line for a minute, I was left on hold for an hour guys my phonze froze and had to reboot it again and waited for someone to call till this moment no one called and now its affected all my channels so what do I do now?

I must say that TopTV_Wizard is really on the ball, I remember when I got the dish installed and it was like 24 hours later and still no activation, he sorted it out for me in flash. and yes he sent me a pm...
 
Only problem I've found sofar is that the picture seems very dark, if I watch SABC live and switch to SABC on TopTV I have to turn up the brightness on my TV about 20% to get the same clear picture. This is not just some channels, I've noticed all channels are dark.

Top TV can you brighten the picture please

Come to think of it, I have picked up on this too, but never paid much attention to it.
 
Yip, the mute button on the TopTV remote switches my Telefunken DVD player on & off.

Pressing Channel down button on TopTV remote switches my Telefunken TV off.
Pressing the left or right buttons on TopTV remote changes my volume up and down on my TV.
Pressing the 'OK' button on the TopTV remote changes the input type to AV2 on my TV.
Pressing the 'Menu' button on my TopTV remote changes it to channel 2 on my TV.
Pressing the 'Info' button on my TopTV remote switches my Samsung DVD player on and off.
God forbid I press any of the number buttons on the TopTV remote as it begins to autoscan on my TV and changes resolution, contrast, etc.

Solution: Moved TopTV decoder away from rest of entertainment system.
Outcome: Successful.
