ICASA press statement about TopTV porn channels
The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa hereby notifies all interested stakeholders about Top TV’s application for three additional video channels that seek to carry adult content. This application was lodged in terms of the regulations governing Subscription Broadcasting Services in South Africa.
The Council of ICASA has taken a decision to subject the application to public consultation; thereby inviting interested stakeholders to lodge written submissions in relation to the application. The Authority has since been receiving submissions pursuant to the publication of the application in the government gazette on 19 December 2012.
1. However, The Authority has noted that the received written submissions do not follow the process as outlined in the published government gazette. The required process for submissions to the Top TV application is as follows: All written submissions, responses and other correspondences must be directed to Ms Ndondo Dube by email on
[email protected] or by fax on (011) 566 3200 or hand-delivered to the Authority’s Head Office in Sandton
2. Persons who lodge the representations or make submissions, shall at the same time of lodgement, furnish proof to the satisfaction of the Authority that a copy of the same representation has been sent to the CEO of Top TV Mr KE Mbalo by email on
[email protected] or by fax on (011) 582 8308 or hand delivered at 28 Saddle Drive, Woodmead Office Park, Woodmead, 2191 or registered post to Private Bag X019, Rivonia 2128.
3. TopTV is entitled to respond in writing to written representations made by interested parties on the application; and such responses are to be lodged with the Authority within a particular time period. TopTV is also required to furnish a copy of the same response to the relevant person that has made such written representation.
Interested parties have until 21 January 2013 to make written submissions in relation to TopTV’s application; subsequent to which the Authority will determine how to proceed with the application.
