TopTV takes off: MultiChoice & SABC concerned

Well, how exactly do you define "quality of the service"? Is it picture quality? The absence or presence of Supersport? The number of times each program is repeated? The width of variety?

I have TopTV, and for me it is far superior to Dstv, for whatever my reasons are. I don't watch any sport, I prefer documentaries, movies and music - all of which are on TopTV in abundance, axcept it costs half of what DSTV charges.

Also, how can you ask if an entire spectrum of channels is "worth watching"...??? Strange question.

Thanks, you have answered the general question, be it in a "rip-apart" manner. It was an innocent question on general perception of the "value for money" service provided by TopTV from actual subscribers. The value gained by TopTV will probably differ from one subscriber to the next – the same applies to DTSV, I guess. ;)
 
Top TV (or dstv) is not a service - it is a product. The product includes a service component though, which would be the administrative and support functions delivered by TopTV. The product is what happens on your TV screen.

I wasn't trying to rip you apart, but perhaps in hindsight you would agree that you could have framed the question differently?

I subscribed to dstv for several years, and when I got gatvol of the endless repeats and mindless ads for dstv programs, I disconnected the decoder and plonked it in my garage, where it is still gathering cobwebs. I should have sold the damn thing before Toptv came along.

It is such a pleasure to watch stuff on TopTV without moronic repetitive ads - but I'm sure that is coming. And then my perception of the product would probably change.
 
You know, companies like Multichoice just love to insult the intelligence of the general populace...the same people they want as customers. Who the hell do they think they're fooling with this nonsense about the R99/month package being a World Cup-related product. BULL!
 
Jackie Rakitla, MultiChoice's head of corporate affairs, denied that the decision to launch DStv-Lite was meant to pre-empt TopTV's launch -- it was timed to coincide with the World Cup. "As you know, this is one of the biggest events in South Africa," said Rakitla. "We would like to contribute to the experience by providing access to great sporting entertainment." The World Cup will be screened on SABC.


Jaa right , they must think we idiots !! Multichoice fast becoming the new Telkom. Already their call centre response is like the old Telkom

Hi Guys

There looks live there is a big decoder problem from the first batch that sold on 1 May 9, 2010 I am on my 3rd decoder since 1 may my first decoder was dead out of the box took it back to PEP there I bought the decoder they did not want to exchange or refund me after a big fight they gave me a new decoder got home connected it and worked after watching FNL for 1hour the decoder could on get a signal took back to PEP same story above now on my 3rd decoder that came from the second batch of decoders delivered to stores touch wood it is still working but then found out there were 4 other people in my town that the decoders there dead out of box.

So if there is a problem with the decoders Top-Tv needs to do a recall

Second but not least TTV need to get there age restriction working we were watching The book of revelations on silver and you saw a guy w*nking having sex etc. but this does not effect my household but what about people who have kids (I Love Silver)

I would like a Sci-Fi channel

I took the 41%.....

You can only be a PVR subscriber IF you're a Premium subscriber (from what I know)... so that 13% is included in the 41%

Absolute bollocks.Sabc get a carriage deal fee,the same for every other channel on toptv or dstv.The only difference is the other channels they can pick and choose while the sabc they have to carry.
 
You are indeed correct...

But my guess is more than 90% of the PVR subscribers are on Premium...

So maybe the portion of their subscriber base who are more than likely going to stay is around say 44%.... its still a number to worry abou though.

I accept the old saying never judge a book by its cover but really those Top TV decoders in Pep look like kiddies toys I just hope they were not cobbled together by some toy factory in China

Actually they're put together by the same folks who made the decent dstv decoders before the HD fiasco.

When etv launched it had minimal ads, no news and only quality (albeit old) series and loads of movies. Now it's filled with local crap, news six times a day and hours of wrestling. I'll wait it out before I jump onto TopTV.
