TopTV takes off: MultiChoice & SABC concerned

I'd say the ideal situation would be to have both TopTV and DStv, although of course it would be quite an expensive experience - 100+ channels.

A connection of mine recently got TopTV and he said it wasn't too bad. There were a couple of hiccups in the service, but these will of course be sorted out ASAP. I wish them all the luck in the world!

I assisted my FIL getting his DSTV decoder reconnected on Thurs, he is a sport fanatic, as I am... after hooking it up... we got a msg that the service is not available, he is a paid up subscriber... we called the DSTV call centre, waiting 30 minutes before being assisted... 30 minutes on hold, for a call centre that's not under much pressure, that's pathetic... I wanted to go with TopTV, got MNET at the mo, but my wife says she wants her HBO series... not Fox's stuff... I enjoy the sport, so it's looking more like I am going to join the DSTV crowd... just hope I don't get the k@k service my FIL got...

One more thing: "Rakitla said that MultiChoice designed its bouquets to cater for the varied needs of a large range of customers."... sure what rubbish, the vast majority of folks in SA enjoy sport, so why not have SS1 and SS2 as an option on the smaller DSTV offerings? Because it's there trump card and they know it!

I'm enjoying TTV. They have some good entertainment, especially in the evenings.

Just had my TTV installed and browsing through the EPG they have some cool shows later today. Buffy,The Simpsons, X-files and on Fox Retro the 6 million dollar man. :D

Also the music channels are a lot better than those on DSTV. In the last couple of months I have not watched Mtv/Vh1 on DSTV once cos its mostly RnB crap! With TTV there is Kerang to cater for people that hate (c)rap/RnB, and then another channel I watched only played 'noughties' (90's) hits.

One of the best channels on TTV is silver that has movies that will most likely never ever screen on Dstv. Fine living network has got only the best shows that are on Dstv’s home channel & bbc lifestyle all in one channel

TTV movie channels has no logos on screen during a movie so it looks and feels like you are watching a dvd

TTV has more channels in wide screen and with Dolby surround sound than dstv

There are a few little problems that has to be sorted out like the EPG but TTV said they are working on it and will be sorted out ASAP

The 1 nice feature is that you can look in the guide and still watch the channel you are on

So far I am very impressed with TTV

I have been supporting MC since mnet started but I am tired of been screwed without KY-jelly by dstv

One of the only problems I have with the TTV EPG is that they don't show an episode/season number next to the episode title.

I dont understand why SABC would be concerned, seeing as though TopTV has them in their channel line up...

So far I am not impressed by TopTV service. I got my decoder last Tuesday - so one full week ago now.
I have tried to call every day with no luck. I just get beep beep beep in my ear. I have emailed 3 times too with no response. So I have a dumb decoder sitting on my desk that is as useful as a brick and no-one on the other end to assist me in taking the next step and getting it installed.
I know they have been under strain hence the 1 week given to get some sort of action.

If this is the level of service to be expected going forward then I think Monochoice may just keep getting my cash.

Try Try and try again their are thousands that are happy and already connected, if you dont make an effort then carry on pay MC.

Edit:

On friday TTV operator answered within 9min to activate then phoned DSTV operator answered after 20min to cancel

I cannot even get a TTV operator to answer. Emails are sending read receipts within 30 mins of me sending and nothing after that. I have no route to get hold of these people.
I won't simply say "They are busy and loads are happy so suck it up". I have given them a week to respond to one of 3 emails or answer their phone and nada. I am entitled to start getting.

Good for you that you got through quick!

Have you tried the 011 number? Much faster than 0860 number.

I have to say, when I try with a telkom line to the 086 number, I cannot get through, but with my cell, I try 3 to 4 consecutive times, (phone, beep-beep, hang up and try again) and ALWAYS get through. Their options can get upgraded a bit, but working. Got mine installed on saturday, phoned them, and while talking with the guy, the channels started to go live. Quite a few things that need fixing, but the complaints are in, and I see that the changes are made. Glad I went for it.

Thanks for the heads up Sonic. Now that was useful information. I tried on my cell and it went through the 3rd time. I never thought a telephone number could work differently depending on where you called from. Weird.
Thanks mate.

Does anyone know if the cost for the longer mounting bracket is covered by Toptv as the installation cost are suppose to be part of ther R499?

I don't think so, the installer would be losing more money and wouldn't be able to recoup the loss from TTV, unless of course you are willing to pay for it, then it is a different story altogether.
