TopTV - The total costs

I think if you want program quality similar to DSTV's quality you should hold out for the Chinese guys who took over Telkom's Pay-TV license

The rep could not tell me when they will actually start broadcasting.

Broadcast tests started about 9 months ago.Currently all 3 transponders are active with full broadcasting.

Stock is already in retail but they are not allowed to shelf it before 1 May.Currently they are busy with installer training nationwide. They are a little behind with installer training so there won't be accredited installers everywhere at launch.

If you find there is no toptv installer in your area, you can have it remotely activated from one. It'll work but its not an official solution.

Well i defiantly switching over. DSTV gotten far too expensive for the lame programs they show.
At maybe this is Off topic but why the hell your got to pay extra for HD or PVR service .
TopTV sign me up.

4/5 years maybe... my cousin had his installed for 499 last year. He paid R50 for installation because he "knew a guy":), but the equipment was 499 incl. dish.

Yeah it was 499 less than 3 years ago. DSTV i don't watch you anymore. well except for Lost

I'd like to try it too, but it's a risk having to buy a new decoder and dish. What if they go under?

I thought that would only be broadcasting test patterns and such? The rep was enthusiastic and very polite, but despite that she still sounded a little clueless..
Are they doing installations yet? The rep said no, but if they are, how do I find one? I'm on the east rand.

Usually when sat TV goes live, they have been broadcasting for weeks already, albeit reruns or tests or whatever. The screens and channels would be up and not "blank". Some would even have offered a trial subscription with a 1000 homes giving feedback etc.

The dish you can re-use if you then move to DSTV, the decoder I suppose you could use as a door stop or paper weight.

The dish is yours, the stb you can give back for a pro rata refund.

Anyway,it's R699...you will have roi before the unlikely event of them going under.

I phoned Game and Hi-Fi. They dont even know about TopTV yet...........

lol...... funny to think that today no-one hardly knows about TopTV, but by next month this time......... EVERYONE will know.....

I have been busy telling all of my friends and family the past couple of months........... most are very keen to drop NoChoice and try TopTV. (and there were even a couple of rugby fanatics between them who said they will drop NoChoice like a hot potato if what I am saying is true)

JustAsk : Do you have access to the test feeds by any chance?

I had access to the test feeds yes, before it was encrypted. That time they we're running sabc and etv reruns on toptv id's and also cnn plus a Globecast static logo on one.

They we're broadcasted at 720x576 at that time.
