Just before they went encrypted - it was running at 704 x 576 - which is even worse
 
Launch on 29 april and they go live on the 1st of may,all the technology,software,etc are on their way to sa from europe and america just b4 the launch and all tv heads will be here

Why? So that the majority of their target market can have black bars?

You don't broadcast in widescreen,you broadcast in original or tv aspect ratio.It's the content that is in widescreen.Nowadays more and more content comes in widescreen only,so yes,there will have widescreen content,for example on the doccie channels.They will have some natgeo content.
BBC is wide
Sentana sports is wide
Fox channels & MSNBC won't be...in usa there is no 16:9 SD.
Discovery Science is wide

BTW:720X576 refers to dvd quality and not to 4:3.Aspect ratio of 4:3 is actually 720x480

Star,Silver &Showtime mostly no - i think its safe to assume that based on their content.

480 is standard TV
576 is what they call enhanced TV
720 is HD ready
1280 is Full HD

Let me rephrase that.704X576 is digital video standard for PAL TV,720x576 is digital video standard for PAL DVD.
 
I have full package activated at DSTV SD + HD PVR. I received 2 calls from DSTV yesterday to ask if I'm happy. Answer : No technology will keep me at DSTV, I will be one of the first people to connect to TopTv, I actally had a 90cm dish installend a month ago before I knew about their installation with package. Besides that they are expensive you can never find anything that's not a repeat.
I told them we have been asking for things like classic series channel for years instead they add more and more reality to series channel. I'm not a sports fan and my only problem with DSTV is Repeats and Price. They only spended on sports the past few year and neglects entertainment more and more every year. I'm getting two ODM packages, one full package and another that the decoder can stay on Fox Retro and MGM.

I can't wait as the advert say : we waited so long for choice. Believe me many subscribers that have HD/ SD will change. I'm paid in advance I will have everything for a few months and I won't
disconect TopTV, not at their price and Fox Retro as part of their channels.

I realised after the phone calls that DSTV must sudenly be very concerned.
 
Been asking DStv to get Kerrang for the last eight years. It's here on Saturday :D

Interesting.

I wonder what DSTV's response will be. Though, I am not sure there are many who, like you, will be happy to take the cut in content to move to TopTV. There is almost no sport, it seems. I know that wouldn't work for me.
 
@ David Hattingh DSTV's reality shows really bug me to they should put them all on the reality channel and not during prime time.I mean how many reality model/style shows can you watch?
And the choice of movies there still a lot of really good old movies they could add to their repeats to keep it fresh but they keep showing the same old junk over.
 
This is a perfect package for me as I only watch a couple of movies over the weekend and the documentaries during the week.

I am excited to try this out for a while, but I am not seeing any advertisements in the media. Hopefully they will launch something in Bloem soon.
 
How does one register?

And regarding sports-it will show football (EPL, CL, SPL) with Setanta Sports
What would top sports feature?
