TopTV versus DStv Compact and Select

great summary- I would like to now see a comparison that takes the quality of the channels into account as we all know that some channels are there just to add numbers but zero entertainment value. This is probably different for everyone, but perhaps you could do a poll, inviting people to submit/tick off the channels they feel are worth watching, and then draw up a comparison, using those averages.
I know when I had compact only +-5 channels were worth watching IMHO.

I was thinking the same thing - a lot of the channels are stuff no one watches, like the religious channels, or some of the news channels, and TCM, and DMX channels. If you look at it that way you end up with "so much less".

It is not the number of channels that you get, but the quality of the channels that counts. For R148, the channels that DSTV give you are basically hopeless. TopTV gives you more value for R159.

Just remember one thing. Monochoice has been around for way over 10 years now (not too sure how long exactly) TopTV has just launched. From what they have launched with I reckon they gonna put a serious hurting on Monochoice in a year or so. Unless they pull a NoTel and stuff it up royally that is.

I use to be on DSTV Compact & I must say that TopTV's full bouquet, price wise for what you get, is miles away from what you get with the DSTV Compact. The overall package experience including software used on the TopTV decoder is amazing for such a tiny decoder, they must bring out the HD PVR Decorder soon, I will be first in-line. My first impression 4 stars, waiting to be connected, getting hold of a decoder, getting through to the call centre, the tiny remote control = 2 Stars. Otherwise I'm 5 stars happy with my choice. - Cheers

Uncapped internet R200

Every night just set what I want to watch the next day to download. Beat that DSTV/TopTV and you will have 10000 new subscribers in a day.

This was my criticism of the rather uninformed and biased front page Saturday Star article on the pay channel 'war' - all the journo did, basically, was say that DStv had added 'X'amount extra channels to each bouquet. But look at the rubbish they added.

I am not sure if DSTV/TopTV realize this... but this is the way of the future!

Yes, I agree!!! Every other channel is getting an up-grade with all extra channels, but if you're on Premium (the most costly package) we get ZIP!!!!!!
Hi All

all very nice for the lower packages, what about us paying the full PVR rate. we get nothing extra?

I have DSTV Compact and :wtf: they added new channels  what did they add? I have only been on Compact since Feb this year.

My next question is somebody did a comparison for DSTV lite (I think) and the equivalent in Top TV, really a great help. :erm: Can one of you clever people not do the same for Compact and the Top full package as I and I am sure a lot of others would like to be able to compare apples with apples so to speak.;)

I love my documentaries but do not get that many on DSTV compact but refuse to pay for the full package for two or three more channels that I will actually watch.
