TopTV versus DStv

ODM recently launched their TopTV offerings, taking on DStv in the local pay-TV market. This is how their main offerings compare.
 
Top sure is a shaker. came out of like *nowhere*, for me at least. i'd switch if i knew more... ito return on investment (the +-500-00 setup), talking premium boquets both sides, cost could be recouped within 3 months max. FIFA 2010 is a breaker for me atm. will Top's sports channels cover, etc ?
 
From what I see on the net - Yes they will be broadcasting all the Fifa Games
Via an agreement with SABC.
Not sure if they will have any HD Matches aired.
 
Yes. They'll be broadcasting aLl games on SABC1,2,3 whatevr channels are required and you must remember that SABC own the broadcasting rights for FIFA World Cup 2010.

Just keep your DSTV if you a local sports fan - i am not into sports so I am not bothered only for the world cup I am
 
Yep TopTV is hitting the Market well ... Come on DSTV you adding more Channels but have a look what do I want with all that News Content (why do you think we have MYBROADBAND?
There are like ... too many news channels give us something we WANT to watch....
 
Only way to know which is better is to try them out, a list of channels means diddly-squat. It all depends, for R249 both sides, which provider will you spend more time actually watching something as opposed to flicking through channels. With Dstv premium, never mind their R250 Select packages, flicking through channels is all I seem to do for R530pm.....ouch!

Indeed, instead of calling their packages "select" and you cant select your channels, they should make a package called select whereby you can select 25 - 30 channels for X price.
 
TopTv is the better one, having had dstv premium and compact the channels are not so great comparred to price and avalible channels of TopTv, you are getting value for money in all there pricing options, even Dstv Lite has a bunch of lame channels 80% are not even decent entertainment channels.

SABC will definitely be broadcasting the SWC.

Would this be a good time to talk to ASA about the use of the word "Select" in their advertising? Sure that is misleading? :p
 
After two years on premium I downgraded to Select 2 on DStv on the 1st of May. Its much cheaper and I find that in the past week I have not watched TV once. Might just cancel it all together :p Thanks for curing me MonoChoice.
 
Uncapped? No? Well for me it's a combination of Select 1 and Uncapped! I like Top Tv ... but I'll wait a few months for all the kinks to be worked out! What will I be missing anyways ... it will take a while for them to get some up-to-date programs. :)

I'am on select 2 as well. I've got a toptv decoder from pep in paarl but now the wife doesn't want to let go of binnelanders. Woman &%$%$!:mad: Can't live with them, can't do any positions without them!
 
I just had a the most awesome brainwave that solves my problem. My parents are still on premium and I am fixing them up with M-Web ADSL :p
Now I am sure my dad won't mind me downloading Binnelanders on his account everyday :D

Time to cancel my DStv all together....
 
Where do you download Binnelanders? That is the biggest Problem for my Wife, So the desperate ones I can DL.

all very nice for the lower packages, what about us paying the full PVR rate. we get nothing extra?
 
I'm on Select 1 - best addition from DStv was Discovery World. All else is rubbish. Still seeing junk on Action and Universal that I saw when I joined close on two years ago! Also, hoping I don't get slated for making a racist comment here (which is certainly not my intention), but - I enjoy my music, and the only music video channel originally on offer was MTV Base, and now they have added Channel O. Sorry if I cause offence, but heck, what about a channel that shows a bit more music that a whitey like me would want to watch?! VH1 or MTV, at least - MTV Base and Channel O are predominantly black music channels. Sick to death of rap, soul and crotch-grabbing gangstas...
