The GT86 makes more power (down at the coast) than the FiST and PGTI...
GT86: 147kw
FiST: 134kw (overboost takes this just about 140kw AFAIK)
PGTI: 141kw
But nah, when it's a boosted hatch it's "respectable" power, when it's in a highish revving N/A rear wheel drive car it's "laughable".

So there we go, identical power is respectable in FiST but laughable in GT86, all because the GT86 is a car that people love to hate.
It annoys me when supposed "car enthusiasts" are so one-dimensional about straight line performance and large Dyno graphs. There is a lot more to enthusiast cars than power.
Same scenario, different cars: e9X M3 vs lightly modded x35i at altitude. The x35i will make more power at the wheels and is probably quicker in a straight line, but which would you rather have? M3 for me any day of the week please.

You keep ignoring reason people have beef with the 86. If you are not at the coast it is slow as balls and the ST will embarrass it.
Funny how Mike didn't try to argue that a Citi Golf will beat the 86. He chose to deflect on the handling. The hate isn't unfounded. When you have a car that looks like that you expect a bit of grunt.

Yes thats it, if a little hatch makes the same power than a "sports car" its laughable.
Take note of the car scene in SA, 98% dont do track days, but do illegal or legal drag racing. Thats the nature of the game, so as 86 driver you not in the game...

I'm not an 86 driver, I'm an S2000 driver, big difference. I just find it pathetic that people have issue with a cheap rear wheel drive sports car. The term doesn't have to be synonymous with "fast in a straight line". Love how quickly you've dropped the "respectable power" angle though...

A Fiesta ST cost R80K less than a 86, and in Gauteng will have 15-20% more power. Derp.

False-consensus bias much? Been to legal drag races, half the crowd and a third of the entrants of a regional at Zwartkops... In fact, I'd bet oval racing probably trumps 'em all... Either way, never been more pleased to be a two percenter.

Since we've established that your hate for them is rooted in lusting for one (but probably not allowed to have one) I think we can move on from this discussion.
Still waiting for Rusty to explain why the same power in a hatch is respectable, but in a GT86 it's laughable.
I can +1 this, I'm a regular at legal drag events (Tarlton) as well as racing at Zwartkops et al, attendance tells a different story.
Or does Rusty live his life a quarter mile at a time on the streets?

Who's we? And I lusted for one (it looked so good) until I drove it. Pedal to the metal and...prrrrrt. So not an armchair critic. I feel my critique is valid and based in experience. Even you keep qualifying it with *at the coast.
So no, if you try and defend it's power as adequate you are lying through your teeth. If it was perfect you would be driving a 86 and not an S2000.
The only real consensus here is that 86 owners on the forum (especially Mike) relies on their car to make up 80% of their personality. And pointing out flaws on the car, o boy, that's an attack on the personality.

I never said it was perfect, no car is. I'm saying it's not as bad as you, rusty and the rest of the 86 trolls are making it out to be. You clearly want something with plenty of low end torque (and probably DSG) so that it takes off when you mash the pedal, fine and well. Just because the GT86 doesn't suit your driving style or tick the right boxes for you, it doesn't mean it's a bad car.
It's perfectly fine up here at altitude, and much better when at the coast. The GT86 is a great little car, however the S2000 is miles better in a number of ways, hence I'm driving an S2000.
I see your thinking though. One must own a car to consider it good. if they don't own it, it's not that good. Flawed thinking.

How did you come to that conclusion? What a thumb suck.
Of course it's my opinion, I don't have multiple personalities so I can't speak for we. And yes I do conclude in it's current format it's a very disappointing car.
However, feel free to check the reviews. I have yet to see a reviewer not pointing out that the car could do with a few more horses. And the reviews are often done at sea level, which gives validation to my own experience.
