I love the way people jump to conclusions on the price!
We - the dealers, have no idea what either car will cost, but suddenly it's 375k and not worth it!!
This is getting like an auction, can I offer the next price at 425?
To be fair, he did treat it as a hypothetical. At R375k, it would undoubtedly be not such a great deal, but under R300k it would start becoming quite a bit more tempting. If it gets anywhere close to R250k, which I actually doubt it would, unfortunately, it would be quite a good buy, depending on what it looks like in the flesh and how much fun it is to drive.

No chance it will be R250k. That would make it cheaper than a Polo GTi.
As a 6.8s 0-100 Sports Coupe a realistic price for Toyota would be around R330,000. This should be priced around G6 GTi pricing.
Sure, it has no turbo, but that means zero turbo lag, and torque is low but in a light car like this 205nm will be fun chasing and revving.
Also, considering this car fits into a market segment where it won't have much competition at R320k-340k, people will buy it! What other zippy, compact, sports coupe is that price at 6.8s 0 -100 and looks that good?

Add to that decent after-market parts for the enthusiast, cheap maintenance etc. and you've got a winner.

Awesome handling and aftermarket parts made the MK1 Miata the most raced car ever.
Hatchbacks will probably still rule though, in Brakpan.

I honestly think you have it all wrong, this will be a Brakpan car, how do you not see that?
Even standard it leans towards a Brakpan car, add big wings and ugly wheels and you have a Brakpan idol. DOes it come in yellow, green or orange?
MK1 Miata lol, cool car, different generation. These days the people with the money and option to buy this car are the ricers, fast and furious generation.
AFAIK nobody buys a day to day car for its handling, its first power/speed and then handling. And if the power is at 4000rpm, so is the fuel consumption.

Yup. I thought it would be more than R350k at least, but just read that review. Sounds awesome. I see they prefer the Subaru, because Subaru is cooler
Are we expected to buy Tata?
I don't agree for two reasons:
1. Compare the number of Toyota Auris vs Toyota Yaris on the roads.
There must be at least 3 times as many Yaris' on the roads based on my gut which points to the fact that a lot of people are buying entry level Toyota's and not R300K+ vehicles.
The Auris has not done very well in South Africa.
2. The popular and expensive Toyota's (Fortuner and FJ Cruiser) are bought by the "big boys" (mostly pricks based on their driving behaviour) who want a 4x4 to brag about.
They're unlikely to purchase a 2 door vehicle that can't be taken every where or used to force other drivers off the roads.

I have a Hilux (also selling) and an S2000 (well - had - I just sold it on Sunday)..
btw... the people I force off the road deserve it.

Just time - have a good offer on a new vehicle - and when I got a dog, I found I was using the S2000 less, and the Hilux more, think I did under 3,000km last year.
The diff went in September (3 days AFTER I had agreed to selling it to some guy) - took me from then until last week to get it repaired, was ripped off by a US supplier, etc, etc.
The buyer seems happy - even after I expressed my concern for the diff multiple times - he drove back to Johannesburg, and says all went well
Sold it at quite a loss (R90,000) because I was nervous about the diff, and didn't want to break it in over 1,600km (it'd take forever)

Wow dude. I don't think I'd ever be able to just sell a S2000 like that.
Of course, having so much troubles with it must also put a dent in the love. I was looking for a S2000 a few weeks ago when my MX-5 was written off. Ended up realizing that it's just too expensive all things considered. Bought another MX-5 and I'm now hoping that in future I'd finally be able to buy a Lotus Elise or maybe find a good deal on the BRZ or GT86.
