Wow dude. I don't think I'd ever be able to just sell a S2000 like that.
Of course, having so much troubles with it must also put a dent in the love. I was looking for a S2000 a few weeks ago when my MX-5 was written off. Ended up realizing that it's just too expensive all things considered. Bought another MX-5 and I'm now hoping that in future I'd finally be able to buy a Lotus Elise or maybe find a good deal on the BRZ or GT86.

To give you an idea, I think Honda wanted R59,000 odd ex vat, ex labour for a new diff.

I imported one from the US from www.hartopguy.com - got here and the final drive was stuffed R10,000 down the drain.

I then imported a new final drive, seals, bearing, around R8,000 gone, then R2,200 for labour.

R20,000 to repair If you take that into account, I only sold for R70,000.

Im sorry, but my observation is that SA consumers lap up whatever new fad is on the market, regardless of price/value for money. Some examples which come to mind:
Crysler Crossfire
BMW X6 and X6M
BMW X5M
Mini CountryMan S
Porshe Cayenne
Mercedes Benz CLC
Any Opel

Maby others can think of more examples and in anycase that just my general observation. Aagh, then again maby Im just pissed of at the prices we have to pay for cars in SA....

I don't agree for two reasons:

1. Compare the number of Toyota Auris vs Toyota Yaris on the roads.
There must be at least 3 times as many Yaris' on the roads based on my gut which points to the fact that a lot of people are buying entry level Toyota's and not R300K+ vehicles.
The Auris has not done very well in South Africa.

2. The popular and expensive Toyota's (Fortuner and FJ Cruiser) are bought by the "big boys" (mostly pricks based on their driving behaviour) who want a 4x4 to brag about.
They're unlikely to purchase a 2 door vehicle that can't be taken every where or used to force other drivers off the roads.

I agree with you mate, but one point, the Polo sells around 1800-3000 units a month and the Golf around 400-600, so basically the Polo outsells the Golf by a margin of around 5/6:1. Entry level/cheaper B-Segment cars sell much more than their C-Segment counterparts. Corolla/Auris sales are regularly 1600+ a month and Yaris sales around 800 a month so even if there are 30-40% Auris's sold, the ratio is still around 2:1. Theres plenty of them around here in Durbs btw, but not as popular as the RunX, guess due to many more options out there!

Its just logical because majority the working class is the average earner and a Polo/Yaris/Secondhand car makes much more sense than a more expensive counterpart bigger brother.

Back to the 86. Its awesome. Full stop

i think its great value for money if it comes in at around 300k.

Other than the fact that it has 2 doors, a spoiler and 4 wheels, I don't see anything in common. Tiburon looks immensely sedate compared to the GT86, nevermind the fact that it has a lot less power and more than likely a lot less reliability and character.

Actually I can understand why Dr. Yes said and I agreed to the Tib. claim. You see we don't have the Genisis coupe here in SA (well I have never seen one) and the first thing that came to mind was a Tib. Nothing was mentioned on spec just looks from that particular picture at that particular angle.

Now from another angle it looks nothing at all like a Tib ....

I agree this car is alot like a MX-5 or RX-8 in spirit. They're not fast, they're not expensive but they sure are AMAAAAZING!
And that's what Subaru & Toyota was after. IF its not expensive I would LOVE to own one even if its "one day" and I have to buy it second hand.

Pricing is important to the success of this car I think. It MUST be cheaper than a 350z/370z or RX-8 because it's simply ALOT slower and given the same money the others are brilliant. It MUST be around MX-5 money because they perform about the same and its the same idea, slowish performance car, amazing to drive. I'd say a tad more than a MX-5 because of its engine which isn't a conventional 2L but its still a 2L

I've been eyeing the developments with this car for a long time. It'll be the perfect upgrade for my MX-5...

I'm so glad a car company is finally stepping up the plate when it comes to creating a fun car.
Sick and tired of the never ending feature and HP wars, the barrage of hot hatches on the market. All this cool 21st century tech doesn't make up for the lack of soul I see when looking at new cars.

And although pricing remains unconfirmed by Toyota South Africa, according to two dealerships, the prices will be as follows:

Standard, 6-speed manual - R298 500
High, 6-speed manual - R329 400
High, 6-speed automatic - R346 500
