How the **** is there traffic at this time?

Aren't most people at work?

This is normal? lol

only does off around 10am or so, and picks up again from 3pm outbound.

As @saturnz says... These day's there is literally ALWAYS traffic in Cape Town. I spend a lot of time on the road, moving between sites and meetings and there's just an abundance of traffic all the bloody time in CPT. The traffic build up has been an issue for some time now. Too many people jumped on the "Let's move to CPT" bus and now our roads can't handle the amount of vehicles on the roads.

Because it is my day off.

Who the **** wakes up at 5am on their day off.
You just said that people, like you, who are going to appointments in town should wake up at 5am..

Millennial entitlement is strong.. everyone else who has an appointment in town mid morning should leave at 5am to not make you late for your mid morning appointment..

There was an accident on the N1 this morning close to Bellville. It's the reason for today's crap traffic. My colleague was half an hour late for work instead of his usual 15 minutes early because of that. If you need to be in Cape Town in the morning for ANY reason always leave at least 2+ hours earlier to be safe.
