Trusteer Rapport banking security software awful!

It absolutly does not work with roaming profiles on a 2003 domain, weather the profiles are cached to the local machine or not. Takes user about 1/2hr to logon so must be doing or checking something on the profile that is sitting on the server (which isn't allowing it to do what it wants to probably).

They know about it but I couldn't be bothered. Told all uses not to use it - if they do - get moved into OU for the naughty boys - no more access to installing anything, bam!

Thank you for contacting Trusteer Technical Support.

The issue which you are experiencing is known to us.
We are working hard on solving this issue and expect the problem to be fixed within a couple of weeks. We would be happy to notify you once a version with the fix is released.

In the meantime, you can apply the following work-around solution:
1) Open Rapport's Console (Start > Programs > Trusteer Rapport > Rapport Console)
2) Click on the arrow icon to move to page 2
3) Click on "Edit Policy" in the "Security Policy" widget
4) Type the required characters
5) Locate "Protect Rapport from Unauthorized Removal" and choose "Never" in the Drop-down list
6) Click on "Save"
7) Restart your PC and see if the problem still occurs

Sincerely

Isn't this fun! Removed Rapport from another 2 pc's since my last post. I laughed at the one old auntie when I explained to her how simple the fix was [removing Rapport] - She said::wtf: lol

this is ridiculous! what are the banks and trusteer doing to inform the public that their software is most likely to blame for any pc problems experienced after installation?

googling "Trusteer Rapport banking security software" returns only 8 results - thankfully this thread is one of them - but that doesn't help much as anyone who installed the software, and experienced problems, will not be able to get online with a stuffed pc!

have the banks and trusteer issued any press statements or made a public apology? the least they could do is immediately place adverts in all SA newspapers, on all local news websites, advertise on radio and advise their clients accordingly! they should employ technicians to work for them repairing all affected pc's - at no cost to their clients!

thanks for creating this thread ivork. hopefully everyone that reads it will warn their friends and family, and post links to this thread on their facebook profiles.... or wherever they choose to hang out online.

Sir,

May I respectfully suggest that you get your software working properly, and then release it onto the general public.

I have no desire to be an unpaid beta tester for your product.

I get paid to fix computers, not to spend my time troubleshooting other peoples buggy software.

As far as I’m concerned Rapport is just another piece of malware that I get paid to remove.

Regards, Grouter.

Hello Grouter,

We do not intend for you to be a beta tester, but would rather like to hire your services to help us work with your customers about some of the issues they have encountered.

Please let us know if you are interested in hearing more details.

Regards,

Trusteer Technical Support

Sorry – not interested.

Nice, Googling for info on this POS software and find MyBB :)

Got someone's laptop I'm working on and this thing is just sitting there 0% CPU and the RAM usage is going up, and up.. time to uninstall and remove this thing entirely.

I don't have time anyway to investigate.
I get paid to fix other people problems. If it's a case of uninstall this program, ka-ching thanks a lot in my pocket.

What is flippin annoying no end is every time I log into my bank I have to click through a zillion disclaimers & acknowledgements. We never ask for your pin - ckick, FICA bla bla - OK click - be carefull if at internet cafe ja OK click - you should download this security software click here -aaaaaaaagh!!!!

I have my own AV, antispyware, anti rootkit, anti keyligging, etc software (pc tools spyware doctor).
I do not want another app running on my system thank you!
(And some may have nothing cause they not stupid & you can scan their pc & it will come up clean without having a single AV product installed.)

Its not a anti-spyware or anti keylogging utility. All it does it check that the site that you are logging into is the site that you are intending to log in to.

Yes its annoying but its saving millions in fraud every month and unfortunately its the only realy way to combat this type of IB fraud.

Although I am having problems with outlook not opening at the moment, if its Trusteer then i'm going to uninstall it.

Another annoyance is PrevX - although it doesn't seem to be as bad as Trusteer. It's annoying habit is locking user's accounts out while it silently checks (and silently fails) to get updates.

Found it on my folks PC this afternoon when fixing another issue. I think I'm just going to give them a Knoppix LiveCD for banking, since they're old fashioned and hyper paranoid :)

This piece of crap software does not allow you to do a windows restore! It fails hard!! stay away..

You joking right? Why does it demand a random generated code just to shut it down.

All that cr@p and services loading & running chowing all those resources in the background the whole time updating 100 times a day & playing havoc with your network connection to only do that. You can’t be serious!

This is pretty fail. So whats the banks (im with nedbank) stance if you dont install this failware and you get phished? (but have some level of IT knowlege and relevant AV/FW/Browser security?)

Just done some digging (seriously like 30min + smoke break worth) and found this post from 2008 where some "hacker" apparently had a way to get round it

Then there is this fail which lead me to this amazing display by the CEO of Trusteer on a blog post by John Viega where he calls "Trusteer's product is snake oil."

But then in the comments you get more recent updates from other customers around the world (from this year) who are not getting any sort of info from their banks other than the marketing jargon.

I bank with HSBC in the UK, and they have been pestering me to install Rapport for months (yes, pestering; I literally could not log in to online banking before expressly clicking one of the links either to install or not to install Rapport).
Mr Viega, thanks for providing the community with some much-needed dialogue about Rapport.
Mr Boodaei, thank you for describing the 'detect and react' strategy. I believe this probably aco****s for the severe performance issues I have repeatedly read about this afternoon?
I have been exchanging bank mails with HSBC to ask for specifics about the function of Rapport, information that it is becoming obvious they do not actually have. Rather than deliver even the most basic of technical descriptions, they just quote marketing jargon. Not good enough.
I've also asked them whether installation of the software is required, and I have a bank mail from them saying it is not. But I hadn't even thought about the possibility of a get-out clause for the banks, as I have seen speculation about elsewhere. My actual concern was: what would happen if I somehow gave Rapport the literal green light for a bogus site? The protection would be gone, right?
HSBC does not have an ill word to say about the product, no precautions or disclosures of its limitations, just (to paraphrase), 'You need this. Install it.'
That sort of thing always makes me suspicious. Instantly.

I really would like to hear from nedbank on this cos really not convinced on this software being forced onto us with this kinda background? Who at Nedbank, used what reason to align Nedbank with this company?

Like I said.... it saves millions because it stops people from entering their login details in to another site. The false positives happen when you have he same login for multiple websites.

If people were not stupid then there would be no need for it !

Oh and nowadays all I get is emails telling me to a newer version of the product !! Hhahaa.... that is quite clever actually, if I had a Nedbank account I might have even fallen for that one.
Suppose its all backfiring for the banks now, shouldn't have gone in this direction at all.
