TT Connect performance?

I just got the Dlink router from afrihost today.
I have received no word from TT Connect regarding my installation.

I live in Isandovale.

I made the order on 5 March

I also received a email from Afrihost saying that Fibre is available in my area.

I stay near Highway Gardens and I have seen someone trenching and laying fibre up the road from me, about 500 metres from my house.

I applied for fibre through Afrihost on Sunday night, but I haven't yet heard from TT Connect. I am wondering how they are going to get the fibre to my house. If they are going to trench the 500 metres from up the road, or lay the fibre on the Telkom telephone poles - which will be a lot cheaper seeing as it will be to only one house.

Fenix_SA how are you currently connecting?

Friends in Highway Gardens have virtually no ADSL connection and no hope of fiber in the near future.

Via 8 Meg ADSL at the moment. But it can at times be very unstable, and it's very frustrating

Hi guys, I have contacted TT and was told, they will start with Edenvale-Edenglen area in 6 months time. Knowing how things work here, most likely year or two if we are lucky. There is no fiber available yet and Afrihost clearly made a mistake or they were just collecting info to see how many people will sign for fiber.

 Applied on their contact page in August last year, and their website said 6-12 months, but have not heard a peep from them in nearly 6 months. Now I see Evotel is now making enquiries, but nothing from ANY other provider. In December there was some digging across Palliser road, and what seems like a fibre trunk was laid, but that doesn't seem to have progressed.

I see there website now no longer has the estimated dates for zones, merely "Area under consideration"....

Seems you're in the same boat. Friends have even looked into wireless but so far nothing looks promising :(

Sorry, Highway gardens will be minimum a year before we get there.

@pinball wizard - Thank you for the update.
It's a pity we have to wait so long, but as long as you plan to get to our area it will be of some comfort as it looks like nobody else has plans to install fibre in this area. Was getting worried seeing our area listed as "Under Consideration" on the new coverage map on the TTConnect website.
Would you be able to clarify what the different phase numbers mean? (EG: Phase 1, Phase 2, etc)

I am sure you will find that many people in this area will jump at the chance to make the switch to fibre once it is available. I know I will definitely be one of those people :)

What's wrong with these companies, you'd think the fiber guys would move into areas struggling with ADSL.

Guaranteed every house will sign up.

Exactly why we are finishing a backbone that passes every house in Bedfordview...

Hi, we are busy with a process to change the way that map is delivered to a more real-time view.

Highway Gardens under construction this year. After this thread nobody's going to go with TT Connect :(

Gives them time to organise themselves and kick some butts koeksGHT.

Map is already better than the old one :D Now for some orders to go live

I agree. And at least we know the info on the map is more up to date than the old one.

Why do you say that maumau?
I'd likely go them and an affiliated service provider simply due to there being no other fibre options available to choose from any time soon.
All that's left is to eagerly await them laying the infrastructure. It can't come soon enough.

Right. So Afrihost even sent me the router (which I'm keeping for the trauma they'd put me through), but apparently TT Connect has no current plans to build fibre infrastructure in Glen Marais. Funny that, as the three most expensive areas in Kempton Park are all estates in that area.

So between the fibre providers who don't care about Glen Marais, the ADSL which has been left to rot and the LTE which at some point give me download speeds of less than 0.5 Mbps, I suppose we're not really allowed to have Internet access. Nice.

On the new map, my suburb, Isandovale is no longer included on the map. On the old map it was covered along with, I think, Highway Gardens.

On Afrihost website it still says I can pre-order with TT Connect - which I did do, a while ago, and I received a router.

So what now. Are they just not going to bother with my area. What do I do with the router?
