I fitted a large grid aerial and a 20db masthead amplifier at a church in Brackenfell. The aerial is on a mast outside and aimed at the Tygerberg transmitter which is about 8km away as the crow flies

The spec sheet with the grid aerial states the bandwidth is 350MHz to 800MHz and the amplifier has the same spec

The TV is tuned as follows

SABC-1 channel 26 (511.223MHz)
SABC-2 channel 22 (479.223MHz)
SABC-3 channel 34 (575.223MHz)
e-TV channel 46 (671.25MHz)
CCTN-TV channel 38 (607.25MHz)

The picture from all channels except e-TV on channel 46 is superb, but e-TV is grainy with lots of snow. I returned the aerial and amp to the supplier but they advise is it working to spec.

Any suggestions please?

Isn't e-tv also running on uhf instead of vhf?

This is UHF = E-TV channel 46 (671.25MHz). I suspect that E-TV has done some changes to their transmitters having the same issues on when certain Usa programs are shown but perfect otherwise. VHF TV Freq are in the 230 Mhz range.

Digital is coming in too high and over driving the amp... Get a notch filter to knock it down.

Excellent, thanks. I did not think of that. Channel 50 isn't it? I presume Space have them?

btw: Heard about CC and Dave's business being in liquidation. A pity since they have been going for ages

Thinking about it. 50 is down at the moment and 38 was also low this morning. 28 (DVB-H) could also be the culprit, but then you would expect SABC 1 to be bad. Maybe it is an anomaly... Do you have a measurement instrument?

Yeah. It caught us all by surprise.

Was rather thinking the bandwidth of the aerial or amp was insufficient. I used to have a meter, it got borrowed and never returned and I didn't want to spend another R7k, so I bought a sat meter instead. But this customer is a donation item so I am providing everything for free.
