How should the channels & SSIDs be set up to make sure devices transition smoothly?

So 1 ADSL router & then a second one connected to the first via ethernet cable. The wifi areas will overlap.

I've always used the same SSID and one on channel 1 and the other on channel 6. Seems to work fine.

Though it depends on the distance from AP1 to AP2. If they are close enough you might find a client (phone/tablet) that connects to AP1 and never moves to AP2.

Oh crap, well I think that may have just solved my problem, I put my whole network on the same channel to avoid clashing with my neighbours, never thought it through, don't I feel like an idiot :o

Funnily, the lot at my work is on different channels, yet we still experience clashes :( Will have to sort that out next year....

if you have a dual frequency AP or router, many devices still don't use 5GHz
Was a joke, but yeah since it's not mainly adopted it's pretty much clear. A lot of devices support 5ghz now, ac is the spec that's currently not in mainstream use yet.
