Two speeding bikers caught on N1

Re the above:bgotapen,Apartheid and Nazism was also "die wet" as are very many other laws worldwide, which purport to help, but actually harm society and individuals.

If it is going to hit you, let it be at 200 km/h or 100 km/h, your car will still be damaged. Let's rather ban cars if you are so concerned about someone rear ending you. While we're at it, let's also ban bikes, roads(don't want our kids to scrape their knees now, do we?), and food (you never know when you'll have an allergic reaction to something). Really, if people decide to speed, its at their own choice. If you make the sleep limit 140 on cars, we will have an issue, as emergency vehicles need to get to the emergency in sufficient time.

Last year we did a scene with a young guy doing over the speed limit that was DOA after an accident. Took some digging to find his details, since he had no numberplate, and the forensics team had to finish before we could dig for his wallet.

If I had to follow the letter of the law when my wife was in labour with our son, we would be childless now.

We lived about 75 km from town, and my wife went into labour 2 weeks prematurely. Her water broke, and a call to the doctor confirmed that we had to get to hospital immediately.
By the time we got to the hospital she was fully dilated, and my son was on his way, not waiting for anyone or anything.
The umbilical cord was wrapped around his throat, and when we got to the hospital, he was already in serious need of emergency attention.

Had I followed the speed limits, we would have arrived too late, as he would have died.
As it is, I chose to speed when it was safe to do so, and so doing saved his life.
Today he is a happy 20 year old.

Bikes have come a long way though, with seat belts, airbags, crumple zones and so on. Oh wait... I'll stick to cars thanks, where the airbags and crumple zone are a part of the car, not a part of me.
 
To be honest I don't know why I am debating why breaking the law is bad for everyone AROUND you. I'm not saying don't take your sick to the hospital but damn if you have to go over 140k in urban area's that is when you are pushing the boundaries of sanity

My point if there is NO need for any normal car to drive over 140! An ambulance has legal exemption, the driver is trained and still needs to follow most traffic rules.

Think they only came out in 2011 or close to it as I recall when they entered World Superbikes due to the homologation requirements that you need to sell a certain number of road bikes to enter.

But before that the likes of the K1300S could easily do such speeds as well.

In general anything with a slightly sporty inclination (not a cruiser) over a 1000cc can achieve 280 odd and there are plenty of those around.

It's going to sound biased coming from a biker but I'll carry on anyway...

It's pretty easy and pretty quick to achieve these speeds without endangering anyone.

So if you are on an open stretch of road (I don't know the road in question) where you can see a kilometer ahead of you then you can do a quick 280 or even 300 without much fuss.

It's no more unsafe than people doing 120km/h around blind sections of our highways...yet those are acceptable because they are doing 120 yet if you think about it then it's much less safe and more risky.

Now if you are doing 250+ for 50km at a time, that's a whole different story.

TLDR : There's a time and place for everything to be moderately safe.

Someone/thing moves into your path you have very little reaction time to act. Less than half than if you had been going at 120.

My friend lost her fiancee who rushed his sister to hospital. He died and his sister still lives. So much for the emergency. The reality is that it is illegal to speed.

I am well aware.

Have done pretty high speeds on the track and I won't lie on the roads in my youth.

This the comments specifically to having a kilometer or more of visibility.

Precisely why I said it's still safer than doing 120km/h around blind sections of some parts of our highways.

Did you even bother reading my post?
