He's talking about limiting a vehicle to be unable to drive more than 140, not strictly adhering to speed limits in certain zones. There's a difference.

Maybe because he crashed it the ambulance got to her faster than if he drove to the hospital and therefore he saved her love by having an accident? It's very circumstantial.

And the reality is that even at legal speeds there are often dangerous situations that aren't appropriate even at the legal speeds.

It's all about being situationally aware and taking appropriate action.

I'm not saying these guys weren't being idiots, I don't know the roads. What I am seeing is that I see people doing stupid **** at perfectly legal speeds each and every day, while these okes could have been clocking these high speeds without putting anyone one in more danger than regular idiots and regular speeds.

Let's not judge everyone as "murderers" for a recorded event by a strategically places camera with the primary purpose of catching people with their pants down.

Which hardly solves the problem because someone can still do 140 in a 60 zone.

Which is exactly what will happen.
 
Do we honestly need to have this debate every time someone has been caught for speeding?

Two people are sitting at a red light. One is rear-ended by a guy doing 100 and the other is rear-ended by a guy doing 200. Which is more likely to be seriously injured?

Hint: It's not the first guy.

Oh, because if we install speed limiters on vehicles it means it is impossible to make certain vehicles exempt from this. All vehicles will have to have the device installed, no exceptions. :rolleyes:

But it does solve the problem of people doing 180+ on national roads while there are other motorists all around them. And this happens often. Take the N1 from Paarl to Cape Town and count how many BMWs, Audis and Mercedes come speeding past at speeds in excess of 180. It's ludicrous that our country has reached a point where people think that just because their vehicles can achieve those speeds, they're justified in driving like that.

I understand that. As a rule I stick to the limits as far as possible, but if my friends/family need medical care urgently, no speed limit is going to stop me from getting them the care the need (obviously to an extent where I don't endanger others).

Precisely why I said it's still safer than doing 120km/h around blind sections of some parts of our highways.

Why so defensive? I once hit a pig that walked out of the grass onto the N1, with a car thank goodness. It felt like a brick wall. Read my first post. I have done many a stupid thing on a bike when I was young. It is nothing to be proud of. I am in complete agreement about driving blind without slowing down.

Is your speed guess-o-meter maybe broken?

140-160 maybe, "in excess of 180" pretty much never.

What is a safe speed on the highway?

I'm of the opinion 120km/h is a little too low and 140km/h is probably a better figure

Unfortunately your opinion is not the law which stipulates 120km/h - no matter how slow we may think that may be.
