How much cap (approximately) would I lose by updating from 8.04 to 8.10 using these steps?

Cool Kubuntu is out too, you can choose the SA server from the download list.
It depends what packages you have installed. If you have a lot installed, it can easily be much more than 700MB

I've only got Amarok, Conky, Emerald, OpenOffice 3, VLC, TrueCrypt and VirtualBox installed

Will download the alternate CD at Tuks sometime next week, will save a bit of cap 
Alternate can be used for upgrading and also for text-based install. Few other differences too, like it's not a Live disc.
Alternate CD gives additional installation options. No Live CD. I used it to install LTSP (Linux Terminal Server Project).
Thin Clients (old p2 and p3) only has network boot loader installed.

From your packages, it should be around 1000MB if I remember correctly. I had a little more packages and had a 2400MB upgrade to do
Luckily I have access to Tuk's electrical labs and updated at 12MB per second

I havn't used ubuntu in a while. Last one was 7.10.
Can someone please post a direct link to the iso (the one that I can burn to disc, install or run without installing, like my 7.10 disc. Note sure what it was called.
