Its not Tenet, its SAIX :P
 
Very weird. Using it as a Live CD does not work.

Tried it on a PC and a laptop, but no go. It starts up fine, but after you select the option "Do not make any changes to my machine" or something along those lines, the screen just goes blank and stays that way.

The disc was burned at the slowest possible speed and verified and everything checked out fine.

Am downloading it from Canonical in the UK now to see if the ZA server maybe has a corrupted version.

potentially a possible bug?

try do a md5sum on the downloaded iso and compare it to the respective release in ftp://ubuntu.mirror.ac.za/ubuntu-release/jaunty/MD5SUMS
 
I downloaded the local copy, burnt without a problem and running smoothly.
 
I pulled it down from the Portugal server without a problem, had too many issues downloading previous releases from za sites..

Really impressed by how everything is working so nicely straight out the box. It installed nicely next to Vista, everything works from the word go, sound, display, network, wireless and all. Firefox struggling a bit with certain content, couldnt play youtube vids without installing a few plugins.. Other than that, really really nice, especially under the hood..
 
just installed it in a VM to test it out, installed and works perfectly :)

has anyone tried upgrading from intrepid to jaunty; if so, did it give any issues?
 
If the link don't work, use http://ubuntu.mirror.ac.za instead of ftp://

9.04 is quite nice.... and is noticeably faster than 8.10... and I mean a lot faster. Saves me about 20 seconds getting onto a working machine (not that I ever need to restart).

But unfortunately..... bug #1: Firefox is back to an old bug again- if you close it, the process doesn't end, so you need to kill it before you can open it again... it's happened 4 times out of the 5 times I opened it :(
 
I did a tracert ubuntu.mirror.ac.za and saw it was bouncing through Europe, so I gave up and grabbed the Alternate CD through my international cap. Will do the upgrade tonight

Got the live last night, and will do a install this weekend. Works great on my PC and is the best live so far. Just struggling to get UNR with Neotel - they have proxy issue on their side that causes it to freeze at 144K download - tried other sources and same issue.

Are you trying it out on a netbook? if so are you using the netbook remix version?
 
The version I downloaded from Canonical's servers works just beautifully as a Live CD.

Wonder why the ZA one didn't work?

....mirror.ac.za is hosted by TENET (Tertiary Network)... It's local :)

The servers are local, but sometimes SAIX makes interesting changes to their routing and routes all traffic to the TENET IP range from SAIX via London. It's weird, but it does happen, so check before you start downloading :)
