Uncapped ADSL from Telkom: 'Not enough demand'

its like saying they're gonna make petrol tanks for all vehicles smaller, because nobody drives until their petrol tanks are empty!! (instead of understanding that we're not stupid enough to reach that level)

Duuh? wheres the logic? Its because anyone that wants a decent amount of bandwidth is NOT WITH THEM. They should be analyzing their competitors client base, not just their own.
 
Perhaps somebody should explain to him the business model for uncapped.

For the low end users they pay a bit more and get internet access at a fixed cost with no worries about getting cut off. So basically no hassles.

This is especially important for smme's as it alleviates an admin and budgeting burden for them.

For the high end users there is shaping in place. While the network is busy, the protocols that consume large volumes of bandwidth are throttled. The traditionally idle periods of the network are then used to satisfy the high volume protocols. This way you are monetising the idle time.

The idiots running these isp's need to start thinking of bandwidth as a flow resource like sunlight instead of a static one like bread.

If your capacity isn't used optimally 24 hours a day then you are wasting money.

This lesson should be passed on to all those running isp's that believe uncapped is unsustainable or unprofitable.

Well, I haven't read this whole thread, but but thats why more and more people will start migrating to the likes of Openweb, Afrihost, Mweb etc. Eventually they will realise they messed up, shareholders will be asking questions and CEO gets fired. Do we really want to give our money to Telkom, no, so when they come out with a statement like this, I hope the aforementioned ISP's feel proud that they can hold their heads up high and say we gave the consumer what they asked for.

Our little ADSL accounts are pocket change to them. They make their real money by screwing over businesses.

Yup that would make sense. Neither of their remaining subscribers uses more than 1GB / month ...
 
I actually thought for a min there that Telkom might have a good reason and instead offer higher caps. But No, they just talked junk
