Uncapped ADSL prices start to decrease

Yes, I agree, shaped/unshaped seems to be one of those uniquely South African products hatched by Telkom to shaft subscribers even more.

DONT GO WITH SAOL! Worst move I have ever made.

1: You cant game with their accounts, unless you want a ping in the hundreds (you get a low ping with other ISP accounts)
2: Their service is terrible.
3: The connection dies, your email stops working (yet it works when using other isp accounts) and when you call them to find out whats up, they tell you to change your dns settings (which is bull****).
4: Bandwidth that you dont use is not carried over to the next month, however local bandwidth that you use once capped, is carried over to the next month. So if you are capped and then use 2gb of local bandwidth, they take away 2gb's of international bandwidth the next month. Which is just criminal seeing as International is worth more than local.

I decided it was time to investigate this Vodacom offering further so I got onto Google, which led me to this page.

I then found the contact us page here. I set up a rule in Trixbox for their number 1930 so it would route out via our Vodacom FCT and dialed the number.

Dead.

I tried again.

Dead again.

I then tried 0821930 and - you guessed it - dead again.

This is off to a good start...

Back into Trixbox. One rule deleted and one new rule so that 0821930 will dial out via Telkom and not Vodacom and I had a human at Vodacom on the line.

I ask her about Business ADSL. She asks me about my contract with them.

It's getting better isn't it?

Eventually she managed to work her way through the form on screen. I'm now biding my "24 hours" until a sales person calls me. If they ever do.

All this hassle and drama and my most basic questions remain unanswered. Is the international component using satellite bandwidth or under sea bandwidth? If it's satellite, it it simplex or duplex?

lol.....the sales person will call you, but will have NO idea what the hell you're talking about:)

Why wasn't rolling thresh holds mentioned in the article?

The real punchline of this article should have been that prices on uncapped ADSL have not budged one iota (and are mostly more expensive than they were 2/3 years ago), but that certain ISPs are now taking greater and greater liberties with the meaning of the word "uncapped".

Then people need to start taking these guys to the ASA. They must be held to the meaning of the term.

While more expensive than some @ 384k, the added bonus of after hours ( especialy for the market mentioned: gaming youtube etc ) of being at your full line speed is a definately plus.

This uncapped full line speed after hours (between 8pm and 8am, and on weekends) is the same with all ISP's who offer the uncapped service. It's just no blatantly advertised on other ISP's sites like it is on Axxess's website.

Axxess advertising it like that could make things change, and IS whomever else cancel this uncapped after hours thing we have going. I hope it doesn't change.

SAOL R499 "deal"

Just called them in Durban.Somewhat-clueless lady informs me:

1.24 months contract-wouldn't sign 24 minute contract personally...

2.R1500.00 "connection fee"."Connect what?"I ask.She doesn't know...."I already have a DSL line".It matters not.SO-add another R62.50 per month(R1500 divided by 24 months)
Total cost(assuming that's the lot)=R561.50/month
Caveat emptor.
Regards from Cape Town

I had a Fixed IP service via VPN over ADSL, ripped it out after a day, it sucked big time, first few hours seemed fine, till gaming time and downloading, then I realized what a mistake I made going over to that. That was 2 months ago, and now I still pay for business adsl line(That's what they put you on if you go that route) and you pay per MB after your first 3GB is up. You would have thought they would change everything back to what it was, (Top up by another #G when you want) boy was I wrong, my last 2 bills was shocking to say the least. (Cybersmart is my ISP, looks like I can't even cancel my service with them, that's how mother****ing useless they are, they have been ignoring me since I canceled my VPN over ADSL)

Now the reason for actually posting, why but why do most ISP's have a "uncapped" account? That is so bull***** because they still give you a cap, it might be 60GB or 70GB, but a cap is still a cap... can't they be sued for that???? False advertising? This does not include the likes of telkom that F you over with speed once you reach that magical number... but some state that it is hard capped at 60GB... so those cannot be called uncapped, can it?

Sorry for the language, but having a field day agian with ISP's.. hating them all right now!!!!

i have noticed that mweb also has uncapped, for R999 which is the cheepest so far..... what are they not saying!?

Edit: ugh it's shaped uncapped!
