Uncapped ADSL prices start to decrease

Hmmm, I dont work for them but what about the Axxess Uncapped offering?

While more expensive than some @ 384k, the added bonus of after hours ( especialy for the market mentioned: gaming youtube etc ) of being at your full line speed is a definately plus.

Is anyone here familiar with the performance of SAOL's ADSL services? R499 doesn't sound like a bad deal to me.

I believe SAOL was bought out by Cybersmart, so pretty much exactly the same service. Perhaps read up on the experience people have with Cybersmart.

SAOL's all-in-one 384Kbps fixed IP service costs R499 per month, which includes ADSL access (typically priced at R152 per month), a static IP address and unlimited Internet usage.

Be warned though.... SAOL does something with their bandwidth and it creates an unplayable environment. If you wish to just download or surf the net go ahead, but don't expect to be able to game while using their bandwidth.

SAOL's R499 seems like whacky good fun, but some things are still unclear about it.

The ad on their site says:

Fixed IP ADSL Solution
R499 per month

Offer includes:
  • 384k ADSL line
  • 15 Gigs unshaped bandwidth FREE
  • Uncapped
  • R50 per Gig for any usage over 15 Gigs
  • 1 Mailbox
  • Free VPN ADSL router

So I'm left thinking.
What's with the free 15 Gig's unshaped and then paying for usage after that?
What is uncapped meaning here? Local BW?

There T&C's are not helping me decipher this either

They hopped on the band wagon with "Telkom Philosophy".

You can use as much as you like hence "uncapped" but we will just bill you for it so basically you will NEVER get capped but you just have to pay for what you use.

That is how telkom got around the local uncapped option legally.

...i'm curious as to how this is a decrease in uncapped.

openweb's runs only for 15 days @ R649, for a month it would be roughly R1298.
vodacom uncapped is exactly same pricing as axxess, both being at R899 for 384K.
Soal had that uncapped product now for a long while.

where is the change ?,guess nados has it...

If they limit you on int cap then it isnt uncapped!!!

I dont understand how they can call it uncapped?

because you are not cut off when you reach the threshold, just at slower speeds and this is why it is called [-]Fake[/-]Uncapped.

Ah, thanks for that.
You're certainly more alert than I am at this time of the morning :D
Though honestly, I wouldn't have made sense of that due to the sneaky phrasing they've used.
So WTF - uncapped, hardly.
Boils down to the same billing method of a VC or MTN data contract really.
No cap in essence, but your ass will be nailed.

Still R499 for 15Gigs of unshaped (for those who need it), inclusive of DSL line rental does not sound bad. (My uneducated guess without any research into other offerings).

But certainly this product cannot avail itself to being called "true uncapped."
It's misleading at the least.

Is the Vodacom and Axxess deal only uncapped for local?

I wish MyBB can use a a standard format for comparing the prices and features of broadband packages. It would make it a lot easier to decipher the lingo mumbo from the real innovative deals. And I think we will see a lot of new packages or package changes in the coming months. Just reuse the same table with aspects such as connection fee, monthly fee (incl / excl line rental), int cap, local cap, DL speed, UL speed, relevant hours, contract duration, shaping, fixed IP, etc . Even if the ISP don't provide all the info, one can at least figure out where they are trying to catch you out.

I'm warning you, think long and hard before going the SAOL route... their bandwidth is shaped additionally to Telkom's shaping and as Shake&Bake pointed out their uncapped isn't uncapped.

+1 really have to support that idea.

If the table doesn't look good or fit to scale on the main news page and article - then how about making up an Excel Spreadsheet and have it attached to the OP of the article here in the forum?
It'd perhaps also be good to have the spreadsheet as a permanent fixture in the "Broadband Discussions" sub-forum for reference.
It'd help a lot of the newcomers who ask for help if they could have a clear vision of all the offerings available.

I've got time on my hands as it's a slow morning at the office and will see if I can up with something along those lines - forum browsing and getting paid for it - I love my job :D

I knew isps would serve up this crod, not even worth the post in the first place!when are they gonna get it in their greedy little brains that caps and throttles are a direct piss in the customers face, and paying R2000 is daylight robbery for a throttled during the day 4mb/s plus your line bill.

until there is 4mb/s uncapped, unthrottled for under R500 so when you add your line its under 1k, were going backwards!

The way I understand that statement:

- It's an uncapped account, but only 15GB will be unshaped (i.e. gaming / downloads)

This safeguards them from people popping open torrent pullers and crushing their network. So basically after 15gb's usage your account turns into a normal uncapped shaped account. Not all together bad for R500, considering I'm already paying +/- R400 for my 6gb unshaped international + 4gb local.

EDIT: Nevermind - I only saw the R50/gig over the 15gb limit after I re-read it. That's balls. Basically they're saying - we won't cut you off, we just won't inform you that you're over your limit & then take your money anyway.

However, if their unshaped really is unshaped and/or manageable for gaming - then R500 / 15gb still isn't bad at all...

axxess all the way ... vvv satisfied with their 384 uncapped express (fiber) offering a.. and I must add service so far.. although most of them (in not all) resell IS so its all same boat.. ..

weekdays 20h00-08h00 and weekends Fri20h00-Mon full speed thought.. so given i'm at work in those times.. it feels like i ahve a full uncaped line..
and thus far there has been only one minor glitch ... that was promptly sorted by support team.

But I'm looking forward to the uncapped prices dropping to around R500 and hopefully those bogus ADSL line connection fees will vanish ..
