Yeah - as far as he, and myself for that matter, is concerned the internet really does extend beyond SA's digital border.

If local [internet] really was so lekker people wouldnt need an international cap because everyone would find what they want locally. :)
 
this is really weird, and not in line with what the MWEB technical team and accounts department have been telling their customers over the phone. Even if local is to remain uncapped for now, they're planning to cap it pretty soon as they seem to have done a public beta test with their local usage limit e-mails and the usage bar in the MWEB myadsl portal - what gives....
 
MWeb Should Cap!!!

I want MWeb to leave this service running but should cap at say... 50GB. It would make much better sense and I guarantee nobody would cancel their account (I think). It's because of those guys that REALLY rape their accounts that MWeb wants to cancel anyways.
 
Mweb uses the SAIX backbone doesn't it? So currently if I sign up to Mweb I'll have uncapped local?

well, what I do is re-download the same linux distro about 20 times so I have a copy for each of my friends! :)

Dammit - yet again I find myself in agreement with you...

Yes - if you google for "local internet" 99% of the results are SA based. Thats cause this is the only country with enough stupid people to buy into such an a55 r4p1ng concept.

Internet is INTERnational. They should not market it as local internet - rather call it Nationet. That sounds a lot more suxzorish.

MWEB Technical sent me another e-mail this morning saying that if I have a 1GB account, I get 10GB local, after that, they will charge me accordingly.

So basically, it's what I said earlier, they doing what Telkom are doing, but the difference is here, where, I would go over my local package (say, 10GB over) Telkom wouldn't charge me, MWEB being MWEB, will charge you if you go over 500MB

Long story short, it's not uncapped people and it's MWEB... BIG BIG BIG BEWARE!
 
Also remember, there are a lot of site that have useful stuff which you can access with local only bw. Microsoft, nvidia, ati and many more. Search the forums and you will find. :D

I'm pretty sure Telkom has hard capped me in the past when I went over my allotted local and all indications during yesterdays Mweb beta were that once people used their newly allotted Mweb local they too were hard capped.

This article might save you from getting charged for over-usage over the allocated cap. If they try charge you, point them to this article... MyBB obviously contacted MWEB and got a pr statement out of them, of which they've created a valid expectation to continue to providing uncapped local bandwidth, until a point at which they notify their customers they they will be charged at a stipulated amount per/mb or p/gb.
 
So what's the verdict? Is it uncapped or not?

I must say that the complete lack of ease-of-use for sign up and the giant list of stuff you need is putting me off a bit.

I was able to sign-up in just a couple minutes over the phone, and the sales consultant said that proof of address, bank statements, etc wasn't even necessary to send through. I just had to give my name, id number, a password and tell them the service I wanted, and within minutes I was able to connect :)
 
In all fairness whether you make use of the local internet or not, local bandwidth is supposed to be un-capped ;)

Maybe you have one of those hamanchi lans set-up, who knows, who cares, it's supposed to be un-capped ;)

I'm still uncertain as to how this internal error may have occurred & am interested to know ??
 
Mweb's response is very vague...
Currently there is no change to MWEB’s local-only product and MWEB continues to supply the uncapped local bandwidth service on its ADSL products

Great... So for March, it's still uncapped. We were aware of that already. What about the future? April? "Currently" doesn't tell us much.

Interesting...Hamachi LAN is a good idea, I use it for support, but don't you need International ? If I'm hard capped, then I can't browse the Hamachi net...So how do you get round this...

Please tell what ritual do you have to go through to get into these Hamachi WANS :eek: SAIX NNTP is becoming slower by the day - In fact I only get needle pins during the day !@$!$@
