Uncapped local ADSL bandwidth kicks in

Yup. The extra local (free or not) should be associated with the fact that you have an adsl line, not with your ISP.
 
Local downloads.

Can someone please tell me what I can download locally. I already know about SGS's game stuff. Is there anything else? HTTP downloads?

Anyone know if this will work for a TelkomInternet AllAccess Advanced? Thinking of just signing up for one to use until the the end of the month (take advantage). Then cancel next month?

Uncapped local pah! tha will be the day.
More like, use all you want you just have to pay for it!!

Telkom knows that people like us dont have any local sites to download from unless its a news server, looks like we will just be able to play more online games?? :)

I phoned telkomsa about this, and the answer was no sir you don’t pay anything if you go over. It’s to do with the poll/group you get put into and what usage is available for them.

But also keep in mind i didnt do any international traffic

Thats the situation at the moment, I think (I hope) that if this is implemented, you will not be ticking up your precious international bandwidth surfing / playing on local servers, but when you get capped internationally, then its local only still (Which Telkom might make you pay for eventually)... I censerely hope that its not just allot of hot air again, because at the moment, if I listen to internet radio (Like Classic FM) it uses international bandwidth, even though its coming from Jowies...

How can that be? Antfarm, a local company, is doing that streaming and a nslookup shows a local IP address?

EDIT: That's another thing that I hope will change once all the cables like Eassy, Seacom, Nepad and whatnot come online. Our local stations are online yes, but their bandwidth is so low, it really doesn't do much for music. Hopefully with cheaper bandwidth, they can make higher bandwidth streams available.

I contacted IS about it when I watched my bandwidth usage climb through the roof when I listened to the radio from Johannesburg, and they said that there is no way (at the time) to distinguish between local an international bandwidth, which boiled down to the fact that if you surf your local friendly MWeb website (for example) to get the weather, or IOL / News24 / M&G for the news, its all going into international cap. Only after you've been capped internationally does their (27Gb local) come into effect, which is kindof useless sitting there listening to 36kb/s radio all day and not being able to do anything else.

So, hopefully, when Telkom gets their act together and does a "System Restore" pre November 2005 (when it wasnt an issue) we can surf and game locally without worrying about our precious inferior international caps
 
it seems strange to me that a router like the Mega100WR2 can be setup to split traffic between a local and international account yet Telkom's expensive equipment cannot do that.
 
If it remains free it will remain within the spirit of the regulations. I am however fearful that it won't...

the router only directs traffic towards a specific account. How that account handles local and international traffic at ISP level cannot be handled by the router.

Could you just dumb that down a bit for me, I'm a router noob.

Basically you're saying the router can do what RouteSentry does? It can't separate the local and international from ONE TI account?
