Uncapped local ADSL bandwidth kicks in

All they are doing by offering it as free at this stage is metering potential use, then they will apply a billing model to it, rake in some more money to up their rather poor financial performance this year.

Ya. Im lookin at one of those Openbrowse or IS packages that have 3Gig Int and 28Gig Local and this Telkom one... But I dunno. Dont like that wouldnt be able to split the traffic anymore like I currently do.
 
i fear what we will see come December. Though they don't have much time to go before they can implement this for the coming month.

Only the shareholders saw it as poor cos they didn't rake in enough :p :D

The profits were still enough to keep the right people smiling.

When I read this article I kinda thought it would only be TI clients.
If they moved it to all the ISPs' - they'd be in for a rude awakening.
*The server we do not mention* is already so damn slow I don't even bother going on it anymore - free local bandwidth for all would have it going up in flames. Hell even the SAIX server (which then would also become a server we do not mention :p ) will start acting up like *the server we do not mention*. hehe

Aggh but with free local bandwidth we could all host servers! (or am I wrong?)

Here's my personal verdict.

1 Does it work on non-Telkom accounts?
Yes...tested it with a Webafrica 3gb SAIX account and it works.

2 Does your local count towards you cap before you reach it?
NO...currently local doesn't count towards your cap...before it's capped.
I downloaded 1GB from last night and my WA SAIX account still shows 70% of 3gb(or 2,12gb used) like before.

3 Does the local get shaped?
Looks like it.My saix news goes about 15-20k on my 384 line during the day for the whole month now but max out (39k) at night.A lot of disconnections(spikes) during the day

4 Does it count towards your already paid saix local only account?
YES...also very bad disconnections on local only acc.Looks like they wanna prevent you from using your local only accounts.

This was based on my own tests from last night.

Aghh man I was just referring to the NewsServer for which peeps get flamed about mentioning - excuse my boredom and lack of whit! :) ;)

/Is "whit" spelled correctly? Is "spelled" meant to be "spelt"? :rolleyes" school was such a long time ago and IE7 at work does not have a spellchecker unlike FF at home :p
