As much as it was a 'great progress', comparing my few gigs of Telkom bandwidth to what I have now, and also the many many complaints and speed problems people have, I can come to the conclusion that 'the internet experience' was of a much better quality before all this uncapped business.

K sorry for you then. I'm getting many more gigs than I did on my capped account, and I haven't noticed a difference in my browsing experience.

All the ISP threads are full of complaints and my browsing experience has gone crap, and it isn't limited to one ISP as I have tried accounts from many.

I'm so glad I went for one of those "sold out" Cybersmart packages instead.... Sorry, I have to say it, but in spite of all the criticism, I still love my unshaped internet.

As scary as their contract might seem, at least they were honest right from the start.

Edit: Oh, and I have a backup or two or three.... ;)

torrents could be faster but hey I'm using about ooh.. 40x the amount of gigs per month at less than 3x the price? So i'm not complaining and gaming /browsing/videos is moderate to good. so a solid 7/10 for me :)

I disagree pooky. I have a bunch of monkeys on my line who are downloading all the time. They have done about 200gb this month and I have not noticed a thing. My internet experience remains largly good. I rather like mweb's shaping! None of these downloads make much of a difference to my web experience.

My browsing is certainly no different than before, downloads on the other hand are slower but that's because I chose to go for a shaped account as I don't need everything, all the time, right now.

Well I went from using Vodacom HSDPA to Openweb 4Meg Gold uncapped, so going from very expensive with a tiny usage to almost the same amount but 100x the usage I'm quite happy. Browsing is great, better than HSDPA (With full signal) and gaming works fine, also better than HSDPA where it was almost impossible.

Uncapped was around long before Mweb started selling these fake "uncapped" accounts.

Lots of people are perfectly happy with their connections, myself included.
People just don't tend to post when everything is fine, but by God we're loud when anything goes wrong (myself included :) )

I don't have uncapped but it looks like I may be suffering the consequences of everyone downloading. My exchange is apparently congested and that's why in the evenings I get terrible speeds and latency. So yes I agree with Pooky. The idea of uncapped is great but in some places the infrastructure wasn't ready. Or Telkom is lying and just doesn't want to fix my line.

I'm paying less for mweb uncapped than I was for my old isp service where I could download less than 10% of what I do now. On the downside, gaming was better with my old account as my pings were always good. But overall, I'm much happier with having mweb uncapped.

And in other news, unlimited tanks of fuel ruined the roads....

(only car analogy I could think of :()

come now, don't be a dramatic **** :erm:.

my uncapped with mweb so far has been 80% in the mark where it should be. i've had various issues before we had more uncapped take up in south africa and it's not just magically now that we get internet issues.

you do remember the time when axxess just put everyone over to IS and how big cockup that was, right ? not to mention the fact of ODS and their terrible callcenters. or how about webafrica's billing system which took a long time to get sorted, which i doubt is 100% sorted even now.

what is harming the internet is people who think they need to achieve a certain amount each month and must compare it to see if they are still king of the downloads without just using the internet. using the internet i mean in what ever way possible. there's quite a difference in doing high traffic amounts over just doing it for the epenis status. with this... drama queens like you who think now all of a sudden the internet is broken.

maybe you forgot how crap it used to be around the end and start of the month, were the internet stood about still. yep this was also before we had a lot of uncapped users. lastly the main problem is still the bloody original problem. telkom + government = *** internet.
