I am sharing my data with a few MTN sim’s (prepaid sims in my and kids iPads/devices/alarm system etc) but I dont know how the data usage on the App is calculated.

On the MTN App, is the data usage they show for the numbers I am sharing to for the day, the week or the month? And if it is the cumalitve data for a month, is it calendar (1-31st) or is it aligned to my billing cycle? I also see you can limit the data shared per number - again, when you do load a limit, is that limit then for the day/week or month?

Does anyone know?

I haven't paid much attention to those figures, but once a family member hit a default cap of 10GB, and from some quick investigation it seemed to be counting from a calendar month. My billing cycle is in the middle of the month, so I assume calendar month is the default way they calculate it for everyone. But again, I only ever looked at that once, so take my answer with a pinch of salt

They run with your billing cycle, how could they run any other way or you’d never know how much of your data allocation has been used and how much is left.

Billing cycle? As in when my new data allocation is done monthly? If so, that is not the case as I got allocated with a fresh months’ data today and the data share screen’s usage did not go back to zero today. It kept showing usage increases across all my shared numbers…

Interesting, I checked mine now and that is the case, my billing was a few days ago and it is still showing the previous cycles usage. I’ll check again later on the week, it’ll be really dumb if it doesn’t zero in tandem with the billing cycle.

Have you noticed it to zero on the 1st of every month?

I took screenshots on 31 Aug and 1 September. It does not reset to zero on the 1st of the month which is why this is so puzzling to me. If anything, one would assume that it should be resetting to zero either on the 1st of the month or on my billing cycle (12th) - it did not reset to zero on both dates and it's just been climbing ito usage.

I started tracking it on 26 Aug when I noticed the usage data was relatively low compared to 25 Aug when some of them had a few GB usage. On the 26th, the numbers I share data to only had a few MB's per line useage which made me initially wonder if it does not reset on the 26th of every month but I was not sure as it was the first time I started looking at it.

Very weird. Would really make things so much easier if they just put it on that screen - to say from when up to when it's for/when the usage resets itself every month...

I will keep monitoring every other day until 25/26 September by then I would assume it to be resetting to zero surely...

Please keep us posted how things go.
I checked my Datashares now and they are still showing the previous billing cycle usage.

If it is the 25th I wonder why they pick that arbitrary date?

Would be great if you and others can check these today and tomorrow as I suspect it’s going to reset to zero overnight tonight on my side. I checked this morning and its still month’s accumalation - hence me thinking it’s going to be reset tonight

I meant to check last week but my Datashare useage have reset sometime between the 13th and now.

Ah ok. I expect mine to zero overnight. If that is the case, then the only explanation I can think if is the date I took out my contract, which was the 25th. That could then mean that these values align to one’s contract date?

You mean the date the contract was initiated?
If so why would they only apply that to your Datashare useage and not the whole contract?

Yes, the date the contract got taken out/initiated

No idea why that may be the case - thats the only link I can find to when the date resets the counters to zero is the date I took out my contract. Will see if it’s zero tomm morning.

Forgot to come back and povide an update. So, as
expected, it had reset on the 26th to zero for all users meaning my previous assumption that it works on my contract start day/date seems to be the only explanation.

That’s really weird, pretty pointless to have it random like that.
