They started the whole thing, but did they start the violence is the question?.. If they did, then I think they got a HELL of lot more than they bargained for.

A protest (right or wrong) is justification for blatant assault?

And geeze, the comments on that Facebook post... Of course it's always the others' fault...

And lol @ the double standards. Now that the shoe is on the other foot, so to speak, it's all about context, who did what first, why were they there in the first place etc. None of which was ever asked about the Tuks violence. Wonder why.

These protester's main aim is to provoke a violent response and they got one.

We have seen time and time again that they are incapable of logic, they also just escalate their bad behaviour until they get one and reasoning so they have left no alternative.

Sometimes violence is the only course of action. We need another Marikana to stop these thugs.

Of the videos presented, it seems pretty clear who started it, which may be why the questions aren't asked... but they are important for the broader conversation of course and the answers could prove interesting even if some people (myself included to a degree) assume that given the history that its pretty obvious who started it all.

The sucker punch one does seem very obvious that it was just a little shyte who came out of nowhere for no real reason...

I wouldn't expect logic from a closet Rhodes Must Fall supporter.

RMF are instigating all this violence. I remember universities being places of study before they came along. It is completely disengenious to suggest that there is a different root cause for the current wave of violence.

It doesn't seem at all clear to me. There's literally zero context to those videos.

To me it's simple, anyone involved in violence needs to be expelled and criminally prosecuted.

There has also been a lot of non-student involvement and incitement here, including AfriForum folk, ANC and EFF rabble-rousers etc. They all need to be hauled over the coals.

Oh I agree, all involved (and I have stated as such) need to be disciplined.. be that expulsion or whatever is required... but for the current racial discourse, the question of who started it is actually VITALLY important.

This country is on the ropes and cannot afford for academic institutions to be systematically dismantled and destroyed which is what RMF is doing.

We need decisive action to restore law and order at our institutions of higher learning so that young people who want to learn and build South Africa can do so.

Nothing will be lost if a few RMF supporters get wiped out and South Africa will gain a huge amount if those hate spewing, destructive individuals get removed from society.

How many police officers in Marikana have been butchered with pangas and their faces cut off since the police stood their ground that day in Marikana?
