Next thing they will demand free accommodation, free transport, guaranteed jobs and the list goes on and on. Someone should have the balls to call them to order.

In the average UCT students eyes the RMF group is a frringe racist group that has little impact on their dat to day lives and studies.

Changing the language of instruction goes to deeper levels of involvement and identity.

Just like you got shown up with your "asking for equality" Please, I have had enough trying to educate you on a topic you claim to have more knowledge than anyone here. Go get your free education the hard way, by actually reading.

I do think however the problem is not so much about the language of tuition, it's about the removal of a language that's the issue. There is really no need to remove any language. Add more if you want, no need to remove any existing languages.

Well, there's no real reason why Afrikaans needs an elevated status there any more, it isn't the 1950s.

And it's incredibly impractical to try and elevate all the other languages to the same level.

I don't recall any subjects only being available in Afrikaans when I was there. Some had both available, but none that were only Afrikaans. But then my experience != the totality of the university's offering.

The majority of the varsity students are Afrikaans speaking though... Surely should count for something?

Not to mention that Tuks has more Afrikaans students than all the other 3 Afrikaans Universities combined.

Nobody is asking for that.

As I mentioned even in my fathers time it wasnt the case and you always had the option of answering questions in two languages.

It's there already existing with enough students to support it. It not about the tuition but to break down Afrikaans and Afrikaners, especially the white ones, only then they would feel somehow dignified while they look at something else to attack like white privilege and thus white students, no matter what language.

Why break down something just out of spite and jealousy.

What's next, eliminate all afrikaans books, magazines, bibles, radio, TV and then ban using the language, and eradcate all white Afrikaners?

I also do not see any harm of a language to express itself fully in all fields, whether literature science etc. The Europeans do this and very well, I even saw a translation of Steven Hawkins Great History of time in Islandic the other day. Language is part of identity and culture and not to mention the benefits that it brings to filter down information to its users.
