Updating to WP8.1

Try restarting after adding the Afrikaans keyboard.

Thanks that will do, but then I lose Cortana. Thought you guys had both ;)
I've been using Cortana to schedule location reminders and its awesome so I'll stay with her for now :D

I don't think the region actually has an effect on the keyboard, maybe just do a reboot after adding the afrikaans keyboard.
 
Really hate that the games have moved ot general apps. Have deleted my games (now Xbot) tile and installed the Nokia Folder app. But can't get away from my general app list istill being cluttered with the game apps.
 
Gave up trying to update. Will wait until I find an offline update, if that will be available
 
On a totally different note:

Under Setttings > Mobile+SIM I see one can change the SIM name under SIM settings. What's this for, and what does it actually do? Or is it just cosmetic?

I think it's for phones with dual Sims.

This is really ****ty IMO :(
Gonna annoy me aswell, I got used to only seeing Games in the Games Hub.
 
Battery drain

Noticed increased battery drain on my L720 since this morning, a quick search confirmed that many others are experiencing the same problem. It's possible that it might be Cortana, anyone without Cortana notice a difference in battery life?
 
Yup, disabled Cortana after five minutes, but battery drain does seem to have increased without her.
 
From the MS forums, posted by Windows Phone Tech Lead:

Hello Everyone,
The first day after updating your device you can expect some battery consumption due to the reinstallation of all applications and normal restoration that may occur post update.

We ask that you watch your battery consumption on day 2 and 3 and do so through the Battery Saver application. If you can please open the Top 2-3 items in the battery saver application and look at each application you will see if the battery consumption is based on background task or if the application was active on the screen being used by you. If you see a large amount of consumption in the background compared to your own personal use as the application it would be helpful to watch those.

In addition, if you can please also go to Settings -> Email + Accounts and see if any accounts are stuck in sync mode. There could be an account sync issue that is occurring. You can stop the sync and re-add the account to see if it resolves your issue or if the primary account simply restart the phone.

If you continue to see the issue, please provide some screenshots of your battery saver application, and the second screen for the top 2-3 items so we can see consumption.

I'm noticing extra drain without cortana.

Making me emo. 50% battery left and i'm only half way through the day! Say what! Got over 2 full days on the previous version.

EDIT: oops, scratch that... I see time since last charge is 18 hours (1 day 6 hours remaining) in the battery settings. I remember I unplugged the wireless charger last night to use the 2 prong for something else.

So no... no noticeable extra drain without cortana.
 
Just installed the WP8.1 Dev Preview bug update. Good to see MS updating the preview, no new features, but they say it will enhance battery life. Hope so!

Let me put it this way.

Time since last charge:16 hours, 55% remaining

8.1 never lasted me a full day never mind a day and a half
 
Yeah, I'm definitely getting better battery after Dev Preview update 1. On a Lumia 520 while the 1520 is in for repair. (Can't wait to get the 1520 back. It's been in for 3 weeks already to replace the back cover - rear camera glass cover cracked when a low door handle caught my pocket.)

The update bricked my phone :mad: The phone was stuck on the spinning gears screen at 75% for about 10 hours. I had to restore using the Nokia Care Suite. All my pictures and music are gone :mad:

On the plus side though, at least there is a method to fix a bricked phone :D
