Upgrade from XP to Vista?

your fps dropped and you did not investigate why :) so in your eyes vista sucks because your the only oke who's fps drops sometimes as much as 100 fps

even on tests done with vista vs xp fps drops by less 10% on those machines :)

dude what where you copying over that envolved 1400 files for 12mb wow lol small files those are :)
 
Vista SP1 RC1 Slows HDD & Network Speeds

Using identical quad core Penryn HP xw8600 test rigs with NVidia Quadro FX 4600 graphics cards, 15,000rpm SAS hard drives and 4GB of RAM, tests revealed that despite a minor boost in PC Mark (we found the same) vital real world uses such as copying files across a wired network and hard disk file transfers have not only not been improved, they've actually gotten worse.

Across a network transferring a 1.37GB file took three minutes 37 seconds using Windows XP SP2, the known Vista bug caused the same file to take a whopping 12 minutes 58 seconds, while Vista SP1 RC1 took even longer at 15 minutes 41 seconds. Furthermore, hard drive read and write tests using those lightening 15,000rpm SAS drives produced read/write figures of 119MBps/123MBps on XP SP2, just 83MBps/61MBps on Vista and a pitiful 80MBps/53MBps on Vista SP1 RC1.

So while the Vista's preliminary service pack does bring many welcome bug fixes it isn't without major quibbles of its own.
Even more worrying, XP SP3 RC1 promises to bring an impressive 10 per cent performance boost over SP2 making the incentive to upgrade to Vista smaller than ever.

Here's hoping that 'Release Candidate' isn't quite so finalised as Microsoft had let us believe. Stay tuned for our own more extensive tests on SP1 RC1 in the New Year.

3 days after Windows Vista was released I bought it, still have it installed on two of my machines from that day onwards (I use those machines every day). I had Windows Vista installed on my main computer for about 6 months. Had Windows Vista installed on 5 machines at one time. Still doubt my amount of Windows Vista experience? ;) And do you seriously believe I didn't investigate why the FPS drops took place? :rolleyes:
 
I've got a buddy whose buying a second hard drive so he can install xp on it, so GoW will stop crashing.

Sigh.

Vista really ain't worth the trouble.
 
Well I'm also installing Leopard so if Vista messes up, I've still got trusty OSX.

I'm well aware of that but when it doesnt work as expected try not to say that Leopard sucks because you're not running it in the environment it was designed for.

Ah but even if it doesn't work, I will still love it!

Step 1. create a partition for Vista, a big one because Vista is Huuuge..
Step 2. install Vista on said paritition...watch as your entire world changes, take note as that annoying yellow mutt doesn't show up when you press F3..yes Vista is clean..new...special. Girls will now find you attractive, you will never step in dog poop again, nor will gum ever stick to the bottom of your shoes.

NOTE: For some crazy reason you may not like Vista or Vista might not like your hardware [time to upgrade?]. at this point you can delete the Vista Partition and go back to that dated OS...

Step 3. Delete old XP partition...
Step 4. Change user settings to allow you to make changes to things without being prompted all the time

Vista is still a piece of crock. :D

Until they fix Vista's Long Goodbye properly (and all the other issues), and it outperforms XP on networking, I won't touch it.
 
Dunno if its been said, but uninstall any version of Nero you have runningon XP before you up/down grade.

I had Nero 7 on XP and loaded Vista, I cant uninstall, cant do jack with it, Cant even install 8 over it.
