US authorities to regulate medical apps

Why don't they regulate homeopaths, chiropractors and all the other woo-peddlers?

Maybe they would if they had apps? ;)

Seriously, I agree. "All natural," "herbal" medications (of which dagga is one, don't forget) can do serious harm. And chiropractors can seriously damage your spine if you're not careful. But let's not stop there: so called "lay councilors" give psychological advice all the time, and I wouldn't be surprised if more than one have driven people to harm themselves or others.

So hey, let's all agree that human beings have no idea how to take care of themselves and to make informed choices as to what they do or don't do with their lives. Regulate, regulate, regulate! The state knows best, after all! :(

Now there is a market for android developers. Insurance companies should support this - less payouts, good for their margins.

Because people have a right to chose how they want to care for their health even if you disagree with their choice.

Right you are! And people have a right to choose what apps they want to use to help them in that endeavour even if you disagree with their choice. Governments should stay out of people's personal lives. Period.

YES! Let people decide for them selfs! If you're not sure about what the app tells you GO TO A DOCTOR! Internet & Apps is ONLY guidelines!

people have the right to be stupid. If you want to regulate something, start with Idols auditions

Please show proof [and not the. it-activates-schizo-in-1-in-10 000-people crap]....

I never meant to imply that, so sorry if that's what you inferred. I just said that "all-natural" "herbal" medications can do serious harm. Then I said that dagga also counts as "all natural" and "herbal." I could have easily said "of which tobacco is one" or puffer-fish venom or whatever.

I once "self diagnosed" on the web and came up with measles. Went to the hospital and ended up being chicken pocks. Methinks this is not such a bad idea at all.

With all due respect, it's the "self diagnosis" that's not such a good idea. Regulating apps isn't going to stop people from doing that. Go see a doctor. And even then, Wiki every single pill he prescribes you before you take it. We do.

It was Sunday night with a public holiday the next day...
