US Election 2020

I think that you're misrepresenting the situation. The question is, why can't the US have social healthcare like most industrialised nations? No-one is saying that Americans must hand over all their money to their government.

In some sense, Americans are worse off than South Africans in this regard. In South Africa, a person without medical aid and unable to afford private treatment can receive treatment in a state hospital, whereas, to my knowledge, there is no analogue to a state hospital in America.
In the United States, two thirds of all urban hospitals are non-profit. The remaining third is split between for-profit and public, public hospitals not necessarily being not-for-profit hospital corporations. The urban public hospitals are often associated with medical schools.[9][10] The largest public hospital system in the U.S. is NYC Health + Hospitals.

I take it you don't belong to a medical aid scheme then?
you mean a voluntary, private scheme that is not forced on ANYONE?

go seek your failed analogy elsewhere, I'd much prefer our own guavamint getting the hell out of the way and not enforcing certain PMB's nor forbidding discrimination against abusers of the system

Disgraceful that officials would green light this far right concert....

Miami Mayor Francis Suarez and Commissioner Joe Carollo don’t agree on much these days, but they were in lockstep Monday in promoting an “anti-communist concert” set for April 11 at the James L. Knight Center downtown.

In fact, all of the city’s elected officials agreed: The commission voted 5-0 to co-sponsor the event at the city-owned Knight Center and said the city would waive up to $21,500 in rental costs, broadcasting fees and police and fire services.

Suarez later indicated at a press conference that he would sign the commission’s resolution, praising what he said would be the “first anti-communism concert in the history of the city of Miami” and the United States.

“Our city represents the stories of countless individuals who have risked their lives to flee communism,” Suarez said, mentioning Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela. “Each and every life that has fled communism has proven how the will to pursue democracy and freedom, even in the face of oppression, can never be suppressed or silenced.”

Twenty-two artists are scheduled to perform, including legendary Cuban-American trumpet player Arturo Sandoval and singers Willy Chirino and Amaury Gutiérrez. Emilio Estefan has also said he plans to attend the concert, though he will not be performing.

Organizers said the artists are all performing free of charge and that ticket proceeds would go toward covering their expenses. Additional money raised will go to the nonprofit Cuban Democratic Directorate, which helps political prisoners in Cuba and their families, according to the group’s co-founder, Orlando Gutierrez-Boronat. The nonprofit’s initiatives include JusticeCuba, a group of 10 attorneys working to prosecute members of the Castro regime, Gutierrez-Boronat said.

He is organizing the concert alongside musician Frankie Marcos.

I can't believe these Cubans who escaped their country in rafts would so something like that.

Do they not realise how great the education and healthcare is in Cuba???
What an ungrateful bunch.

House Cubans.

If you think they're ungrateful how about those Vietnamese boat people.

I don't think that those hospitals are free though.

using my own funds yes, won't be standing around with cupped hands asking other taxpayers to help me out
and I expect them to not come here with cupped hands either
period

No need.
Send lumeer a pm, he'll do a gofundme with all the other socialists on here to pay your bills.

A safety net hospital is a type of medical center in the United States that by legal obligation or mission provides healthcare for individuals regardless of their insurance status (the United States does not have a policy of universal health care) or ability to pay

Here's your problem with your thesis: there are far more conservative leaning voters than progressive voters. It's also interesting to tote that well-educated, up-scale suburbanites are going for Buttigieg or Warren than Sanders in the Democratic primaries.

But, but, but we are told that the progressive left is taking over ...

Yes, absolutely yes, a thousand times over if needs be. How is this even a question?!? o_O

If you want to help a sick person without the financial means to afford treatment, guess what, you are free to do so with your own money. Leave mine the fahk alone.
Did you stop paying for medical aid then?

Ok. So you do want to be taxed more to help poor people?
How much more?
Healthcare is so bad in the USA, people die because they can't afford insulin.

It is free in Canada. Free in the UK.

But in the USA, muh Capitalism has made it cost over a $1000 per month.

The NHS in the UK buys that drug for $16 per vial.

The US sells the drug to people with diabetes for $225 per vial. It use to cost $16 in 1996.

Something needs to change.
