Poor Yahoo... no one knows who you are

konfab here in a minute to weep, "Will nobody think of the oligarchs?!"

What about them? They are laughing to the bank as all the helicopter money the leftists and neocons are printing is going to end up straight into stuff that the government can't print. Like property and stocks.

But you know what you are right. We don't need any such evil things like using the needs of other people to determine ones value to society.
All we need is a government department that can sit down and work out exactly what everyone should be earning because the government knows everything. They know exactly what your skills are and how much other people need them at every femtosecond of time.

Just imagine how just society will be. Someone who studied underwater femenist dance therapy will finally earn as much as a software engineer. Society will finally be equal as everyone will be paid according to their need, and contribute towards society according to their ability.

We should trust the government.
Love the government.
As as Biden would put it, have economic intercourse with the government.

I think that’s a good thing
It's not. For a couple of reasons.

1) As the leftists like to put it, this is privatising profit and socialising risk. Them being deemed critical infrastructure means they will be free to do whatever they want and the government will bail them out. Hence you will end up with an SAA situation.

2) It stifles out competition. If they want to close their doors because of the Shanghai shingles, that is their prerogative. However they will be opening the door to a competitor who would figure out how to make whatever they do with lower risk( more automated processes, better QC).

3) The Trumpenfuherer, by doing this has just declared he knows more than every company that supplies these products. That is wrong, and everyone in this thread will probably agree with me on this. Yet he isn't risking his own money, just the money of future generations.

It is the same arguement why I don't want the government near the healthcare system FYI.

4) Government forcing people to do things is never ends well.

On November 1st, 1955, president Dwight Eisenhower deployed the Military Assistance Advisory Group to South Vietnam as non-combat advisors to train the Army of the Republic of Vietnam who were fighting to stop Ho Chi Minh’s Viet-Minh army as they moved south after the Indochina War with France.

In 1961, John Kennedy took office and, by the time was assassinated in November ’63, America had 16 000 military advisors in Vietnam... Lyndon Johnson was sworn in as president on Air Force One, two hours after Kennedy’s death in Dallas.

On August 2nd, 1964 the USS Maddox fired on three Vietnamese torpedo boats who returned fire in the Gulf of Tonkin. The incident led to Johnson signing of the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution on August 10th… The resolution allowed Johnson to bypass Congress and authorise the use of military force without a declaration of war.

He increased troop deployment in Vietnam to 184 000 troops.

A regional conflict became a hot war, and at its peak in ’69 there were 543 000 Americans fighting in Vietnam.

Richard Nixon was president.

The final battle was for Saigon.

On April 7th, 1975 the People’s Army of Vietnam began their offensive, and by April 27th, they’d encircled Saigon.

From April 29th, helicopters began airlifting American personnel, civilians and at-risk Vietnamese folk from the American Embassy. Helicopters flew around the clock for two days rescuing more than 7 000 people… The operation was called Frequent Wind.

On April 30th, 1975, nineteen years and six months after Eisenhower deployed the Military Assistance Advisory Group, Operation Frequent Wind became the final act of the Vietnam War.

Nineteen years.

Gerald Ford was president.

Bruce Springsteen sings:

So they put a rifle in my hand
Sent me off to a foreign land
To go and kill the yellow man

This is the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington:

wall at sunset.jpg

It’s made up of two 75 meter long, 3 meter high stretches of granite, and etched on the wall are the names of 58 320 American men and boys who were sent to a foreign land to go and kill the yellow man…

They never came home.

58 320 names.

The Vietnam War was the sixth deadliest event in American history.

Was…

The first known Covid death in the US was on February 6th

Today, 83 days later, 58 412 American men, women and children are dead.

58 412

Today, a man who threw away the NSC’s pandemic playbook; who’s PDBs through January and February included twelve warnings about the virus; who called the virus a Democrat hoax; who said "We have it totally under control”; who said "We pretty much shut it down coming in from China”; who said "This is a flu. This is like a flu”; who said the virus was “going to disappear. One day it’s like a miracle, it will disappear”; who said "No, I'm not concerned at all. No, I'm not. No, we've done a great job”; who said “heat, generally speaking, kills this kind of virus”; who said fifteen cases “within a couple days is going to be down close to zero”…

A man who held rallies on January 9th, 14th, 28th and on February 10th, 19th, 20th, 21st and 28th...

A man who played Golf on January 18th and 19th, on February 1st and 15th, and on March 7th and 8th…

A man who suggested taking an unproven Malaria medication as well as a disinfectant “injection, inside”…

… Is president.

Have you honestly heard anyone use that term before Biden used it? ;)

At the very least, it cannot be considered 'every day' or 'common' speech.

It's not an uncommon usage at all, I'm actually surprised how few seem to have seen it's use other than before 'sexual', but that alone implies there are other uses for the word.

Q: Where's Donald Trump gone?
A: Well, he's working very hard at the moment. He picked up his golf clubs, got in the cart and should be intercourse by now

Yeah for all his dementia ridden talks, this one is at least understandable.

How about this one? :p

The english language can use different words to mean the same or similar things, we even call them synonyms.

Good grief

Might be unfamiliar to people whose first language is not English, I guess.
Or people who don't read.
Or people who've suffered a generally inferior education.

To Pressure Iran, Pompeo Turns to the Deal Trump Renounced

The secretary of state is preparing an argument that the U.S. remains a participant in the Obama-era nuclear deal, with the goal of extending an arms embargo or destroying the accord.

In an effort to force the issue, Mr. Pompeo has approved a plan, bound to be opposed by many of Washington’s European allies, under which the United States would, in essence, claim it legally remains a “participant state” in the nuclear accord that Mr. Trump has denounced — but only for the purposes of invoking a “snapback” that would restore the U.N. sanctions on Iran that were in place before the accord.
