Here's one for you good MAGA folk.

It occurs to me your second favourite crusade is Israel, so... Israeli officials concerned by U.S. pullout from human rights council

Discuss.

The US was a powerful ally of Israel's within that council, the US may think it doesn't matter but there is obvious concern that despite it's huge flaws and obvious hypocrisy - that the Human rights council does in fact have some influence in world affairs and could negatively affect Israel if all their proposals go through unchallenged..

I don’t think we should have pulled out. It sends a message that we don’t care about human rights (that’s a different debate). Should have stayed to try and fix it from within instead of throwing a tantrum and saying “we are leaving and taking our toys with us!”

Agree.

Also, it's the unintended consequences that make me laugh when folk bring up 4D chess, but honestly 'tho, I'm just bored and I wanted to watch Techne and rietrot river dance for a bit.

Strange, considering they're not even members:

https://www.ohchr.org/EN/HRBodies/HRC/Pages/CurrentMembers.aspx

Having said that, looking at some of the countries on the list (Saudi Arabia?!), I'm not sure they've properly defined what human rights are meant to be.

See Cray's post...

Again, agree. As I pointed out to cracker 'tho, this post was more to watch a couple of other posters react to mommy and daddy fighting.

Selfish, I know, but hey...

Didn’t think if this. Does this mean that sanction can be passed against Israel?

Not sanctions no, the UNHRC cannot issue binding resolutions, it has no power as such.

https://blogs.fco.gov.uk/julianbraithwaite/2017/09/12/the-power-of-the-human-rights-council/

It is true that the Human Rights Council has no executive powers. It cannot impose sanctions or provide a mandate to intervene. It is not the Security Council. It can pass resolutions despite the opposition of the country concerned; and if it comes to a vote, those resolutions only need a majority of those voting to pass. That means that resolutions cannot be blocked by a country seeking to evade scrutiny, or by other countries who wish to protect themselves from such scrutiny in the future.

That's not to say it has no political power...

Funniest thing this border control issue. It was started by Clinton, brought into law by Obama. Now that Trump enforces it, it's an issue :D

If you say so. :crylaugh:

Only an issue now since it's the Republicans

Actually, it’s only been an issue since tRump started separating kids from their mothers and shipping them off to all corners of the US.

Obama rightfully took heat for family detention centers, but he wasn’t creating orphans.

EDIT: Did I mention the chain-link fences?

No you're wrong. Obama used the same laws to separate kids from parents. Sure it wasn't nearly as effective as Trump administration. By Trump is enforcing it, not using it if and when it suits him. If you can tell me Obama never split families you might be onto something. Which you can't as his administration did it too.

It's not a new thing, like I said, the Demos started this, Trump is just enforcing it.

No not if i say so, show the source that says Obama brought in a law that forces you to separate children from their parents.

So Obama never broke up families?

I think you need to go check that before you comment again

If he broke up families is irrelevant, you said "it was brought into law" by Obama. In other words not breaking up families would be against the law. Since Obama brought it into the law through congress and the senate, you should have no problem showing me the source of this law.

Right, Obama never detained anyone as there was no law allowing it. Gymnastics more? :D
