The USA only survives as it does today because of the petrodollar. Take away the Dollar's status as reserve currency and the hole ponzi scheme collapses.

You know what's really fascinating is that Trump seems to be perfectly willing to own the resulting financial/stock market crash that his tariff talk would provoke. And I had to do a double take yesterday when I heard Trump claim that the petrodollar trade deficit was other countries taking advantage of the US (:wtf:).

But then that's exactly what you'd have to do if your real plan was to put the Dollar back on the gold standard... :whistle:

The gold standard is almost as bad as the current system. But ya, the petrodollar, gold, energy or whatever eventually succumb to BS ponzi schemes

Tennessee GOP kill bill to ban child marriage

State House Republicans in Tennessee on Wednesday effectively killed a bill to ban child marriages in an effort to bolster a conservative lawyer’s case against the Supreme Court decision on same-sex marriage.

The bill called for the state to ban marriages where one of the parties is under 18 years old.

House Majority Leader Glen Casada (R) was convinced to send the bill to summer study in the House Civil Justice Subcommittee after an email from attorney David Fowler, a former state senator, The Tennessean reported on Wednesday.

Summer study is a place where bills often die before they return for debate, effectively killing the bill’s chances to be passed.

Fowler’s email said he is preparing a lawsuit to counter the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to legalize same-sex marriage in the 2015 case of Obergefell v. Hodges.

Fowler is arguing that the Supreme Court’s ruling essentially nullified all Tennessee marriage licenses when it opened the spectrum of legal marriage beyond just between a man and a woman, The Tennessean reported.

If Tennessee were to ban child marriages by modifying state marriage law, lawmakers would be acknowledging the existence of same-sex marriage, according to Fowler’s legal theory.

Abstinence-only education making a comeback under Trump

Abstinence-only education — encouraging adolescents to wait until marriage for sex — is making a comeback under President Trump.

In a marked departure from the previous administration, conservatives at the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) are putting an emphasis on abstinence to reduce teen pregnancy rates.

“We definitely are seeing a shift,” said Kelly Marcum, a government affairs legislative assistant at the Family Research Council in Washington, which supports abstinence-only education.

In contrast, Obama’s HHS poured resources into comprehensive sex ed, which can include lessons on contraception, disease prevention, healthy relationships and abstinence, and slashed funding for the abstinence-only programs that proliferated under the George W. Bush administration.

In 2015, there were about 23 births per 1,000 girls aged 15 to 19, a record low for the U.S., compared to 41 births per 1,000 girls in 2007.

“The unplanned teen pregnancy rate is at its lowest since 1990, but it’s hard to see how that trend will continue under Huber’s vision,” said Debra Hauser, president of Advocates for Youth, a sexuality education advocacy group in D.C.

Yeah, putting the most stringent sanctions on North Korea in history and keeping them on until a deal is made is now trying to "befriend" nasty dictatorships. Wasn't it just the other day you were moaning that Trump was going to start a war because of the way he was dealing with North Korea? But now if he actually moves towards peace, he's "befriending" them? :rolleyes:

That's Trump for you, hot one day, cold the next, we never know what he actually thinks because he just makes it up as he goes along. On North Korea I'm going to take a wait and see attitude, as I said, I hope it works out...
