US protests/riots 2020

You touch on something that is a pet peeve of mine with regards to people harping on about the latest environmental bandwagon.

Soil quality.

It happens everywhere and people don't even seem to consider it. How many homes still have a compost heap? All the plant materials are collected and carted away, but how often is compost worked back into the soil? The natural process is being interrupted. It is a very slow process which is probably why people don't give it much though, but eventually you'll be left with sandy soil everywhere.

I have. But I have the luxury of having space to plant trees and make my own compost heaps.

Now if only I had children whom I could convince that carting around a wheel-barrow full of compost is a fun game. Guess I'll have to wait for my sister's kids to come visit

By the way once one starts to look at soil holistically you realise weeds are actually just pioneer plants.
Oh yes - my Dad was a soil microbiologist. We were brought upon tales of micro organisms, the soil and plants.

Well blm are losing support by the day so that's cool. More and more people are getting sick of them. Nothing but a bunch of criminals and terrorists

Having grown up on a farm, I learnt you can take a handful of soil and take a good guess of the quality of the soil. Soil in itself is mostly dead. It's the micro organisms in it, the decaying matter (compost), humidity etc that gives clues, ability to retain water. Think top soil. What makes it different to soil from, say 3m down? That's also why I believe Allen Savory is onto something. He has haters, he may not always be 100% spot on, but I believe he is closer to the answer.

That's also why I have a shredder. When a massively big tree I had tore in a storm and had to be cut down, I hired a contractor to have it mulched, distributed across the garden. I hardly ever use fertilizers except for perhaps a bit of nitrogen supplement now and then. I also try avoiding pesticides. ...then I see all the garden refuse going to landfills. :X3:

I have never hated anyone as much as these filth. Antifa and BLM can die horrible deaths and I'll smile

So how long was the dog in the car for with no open windows while its owner was out "protesting"? Got what he deserved

Priorities.

Got to loudly and violently virtue signal before taking care of the things that rely on them.

Plants don't re-release all the carbon into the atmosphere when they decay. Plenty of carbon gets trapped and absorbed into the ground. Healthy soil has a lot of carbon matter in it.

Large scale monocrop farming where they just kill everything is problematic though, but the destruction of the soil is probably a bigger concern than the carbon emissions.

The criticism of teamtrees thing is stupid, because deforestation = bad. Planting trees = good.
The main criticism seem to be that it isn't big enough so it is invective is stupid criticism. That could be used as an argument against any good that everyone does that won't change the whole world. Everyone should be planting trees not just that one charity. Everything good helps.
I like trees because they are beautiful and foster wildlife. So I am a huge fan of planting trees in urban areas. If I were the dictator of a country, first thing I would do is plant indigenous trees down the middle of every highway and on the edges of highways on the edge of the reserve. It won't do squat to help climate change, but it will make the roads look much nicer and be quieter for residents next to the road.

If you wanted to trap carbon with trees, you would need to plant them, wait for them to grow, chop them down, seal them up and bury them in a disused mineshaft.

I'm not big on the man made climate change thing to begin with, so I'm definitely not big on the idea that we are going to fix something that isn't even real by planning trees. Most of that is nonsense.

But there's much more real benefits to trees.
