So I'm thinking of getting a new hard drive from Esquire with their birthday special...

Obviously an external casing is on the cards on reckon a jump to USB 3.0 ain't a bad idea to go with my shiny new MacBook Pro.

What casing are you using and what's your thoughts!?

Also, know of any 'good deals' out there? Reckon it should set me back around R200 maybe R300...

It would be faster with a pc which has USB 3.0 but MacBook Pro only had USB 2.0 so it won't have any effect on your mac.

What? Even the new Macbooks?

If you aren't planning on using it on other PCs etc I'd look at that proprietary connection type that Apple is punting.

Have Thunderbolt.... but i reckon we'll have to wait a little while for external peripheral devices to become available!?

True, but it will be worth the wait. :)

I'd imagine that unless the standard is picked up over USB3.0 by all suppliers it's going to be a bit of a niche market (read: expensive, limited product range) won't it?

The reason is USB 3 has not been natively built into any Intel chipsets, and Apple use Intel chipsets. However this will be rectified with the next Intel chipset, Ivy Bridge. So expect to see USB 3.0 in macs soon.

Would be cool if they release a Thunderbolt -> USB 3.0 adaptor and vice versa of course.
