I wonder if Tracestar could have a feature in the future to specify which tower you want to connect to ??
Come on Seburn i know you can do it. You are a god amongst men.

The only known way currently to select a specific tower is to somehow concentrate the signal to / from that tower, eg by means of a suitable directional antenna.
I wouldn't be surprised if there is some command for the UT to lock on to a tower (like on cell phones, since the technology is somewhat similar to cellular technology), but I haven't seen reference to it and am still too careful to experiment wildly

yeah I been looking through the commands for various reasons and twice already thought I might of f*** up the UTD, the problem is the level of commentary on what does what is almost non-existant...It could easily be any one of those cmd's that nothing is said about. Its like poking in the dark near a wall of protruding sparks...ouch!

suggestions

Here is a brief summary of my experience with the program. Use it, don't use it, whatever...

Connect modem via ethernet
Run application
wait 10 or so seconds (how about a splash screen)
appl starts, but only shows in taskbar (how about bringing to front)
says connectivity problem, so I run the "wizzard" (wizzard is spelt wizard)
I choose Ethernet
I select my LAN adapter
Says successfully setup - app loads in taskbar (bring to front)
Suggests to click on start. (suggest wizard to have retry option)
<i follow instructions and reset the modem>
I click start, same problem... Looks like it did change my LAN settings though. (what about an option to change them back to how it found them?)
So now I try USB.
However, says not connected, even if im dialled up via the USB connection...
Give up
Consult FAQ, no mention.
Consult forum, breifly checked first and last page, thinking this must be a common problem.

I have noticed some times it just does not work.....I reconnect once or twice and then it works.

I go it to work like this. When you install the usb driver it creates a lan connetion called "local area connetion 2". This may differ depending on how many lan cards or virtual lan interfaces you have. I gave this lan connetion an ip of 192168.250.50 with a subnet of 255.255.255.0. This makes it easy for the app to connect to the terminal which has an ip of 192.168.250.10. This only works for usb and ethernet.

Are you refering to getting the app to work via a router?

no this is only related to the problem when the app tries to connect via ethernet or usb.

You might be able to convince your firewall to route the traffic by assigning a static ip to the outside ethernet port of say 192.168.250.50/24. This will only work if you use Ethernet, connect via pppoe to the modem and not usb on the router/firewall. I have not tested this. Only a theory.

To answer all the above questions.

The router problem cannot be solved by port forwarding

There are still bugs in the wizard and it sometimes doesn't work. I have been unable to isolate the bug though as the next time I try the extact same process it works. What I really need is a win32 call to disable the network and renable it. This would work every time.

I do mention in the FAQ a method of manually setting the ip address.

This method should work for anyone and everyone everytime. It is the alternative to the wizard.

Connects but no info

Hey man!

I got it working through USB shows signal strength and all but cannot get it to work through ethernet. IP is set, everything! the program doesn't ask to run the wizard and all is as it should be. when i open it (through LAN) the program auto starts, but never shows connection data. just blank. all settings correct but no info  Help!

WiT8litZ: Possible Solutions:
1. You have both USB and ethernet set to same ip change the one that you not using to another ip.
2. You are using a router or switch. This wont work (unsure about switch)
3. Both of above would probably give you an error and will ask to use the wizard... you said this doesnt happen so now I am puzzled.

Send us an email (contact us) so I can correspond.
Try open a telnet session (start->run type: telnet 196.168.250.10 1234)
then type rfScan debug 2
