True, there will be no issues if you change your code back to the original.

However I don't see the point in doing this - as you will only end up changing it again when v13 is released, since it will be the same story.

Yes, but if something happens to your phone with the product code changed and you cannot change it back to take it in for Warranty repair you are screwed.

You mean as opposed to having unbranded fw which there is no way you could have gotten without changing the code? BS.

Regardless, you have changed product code and this assumes that you will always run the most recent version of the FW - which the networks will not have (the sa networks aren't even at 11 yet for NSU). It will be easy to tell that it was changed (the product code that is).

Anyway, I am pretty sure that this will have no impact on the warranty, as I have changed my V3 RAZR with totally hacked FW a few times without any hassles.

Can someone please see if NSU (Nokia Software Updater) is working. I keep getting a "Network connection error" since yesterday.
Would someone please confirm whether it is Nokia's server, or a problem on my side.

It's soo sad that we need to go to such lenghts to get wat we should rightfully have. A colleague of mine has a Nokia N70, and guess what, according to Nokia NSU there still isn't updated software available for his phone!?
Anyways, was a stressful hour and a bit, but my N95's now running beautifully on the v12 firmware... thanks for the guide!

A friend of mine updated to V12 from V10 on his Vodacom (Branded) N95 immediatly as he got the phone, and after the flashing noticed that the phone is still freezing like mad.

Every second thing he does is a crash of the OS. Then he found out by taking it into the VodaCom Shop that it was faulty ram on the device, even though the product code was changed and the phone was debranded, they still replaced his phone with a brand new N95.

It was a hardware error afterall, nothing related to the flashing of the phone.

My N95 is a hand-me-down (yeah I know, nice gift =D) and I've been using the GPS quite a bit. It occurred to me that I didn't have to download any streetmaps, they were there when i got the phone. Now I'm not sure if they were doewnloaded by the person that gave the phone to me, preloaded with the Vodacom firmware, or available by default. If it is not available by default, would flashing it clear those maps-and would i then have to re-buy them?

BTW, got an SMS from Voda to say there's new software available, I assume it's v12. I phone vodacare and they confirmed that if i wanted to go the 'official' route, I'd have to leave the phone overnight :/

Maps are stored on the memory card as a default...

Has anyone with v.12 firmware got a problem with the ear speaker making a constant crackling/vibration sound. My phone has just started doing it straight after the upgrade. Can I downgrade firmware versions? I was much happier with the V.11 F/W
I have tried a soft and hard reset, problem persists...

Ok, so I finally decided to take the plunge and update. I plugged in the charger and data cable, changed to EURO 1 PLUM code and ran the updater. It picked up my now non-voda phone (yay :) ) and determined that a new fw is available. It took about 20 mins to download the update, moved on to the 'updating' phase and hung at the same progress bar position for about 5 mins. Eventually it switched to 'Phone Recovery' and instructs me to remove the charger and battery, reconnect them, turn the phone back on and retry.
I do that, and the phone starts up fine, but no matter what I do it does not want to do the update. It keeps failing at the same point. Any suggestions?

Is your N95 directly plugged into the PC's USB port or are you using a USB Hub?

A hub on my monitor-does that make a difference? I'll try it directly ;)

Yip, I read on a few places that you should never run any device that you want to update through a hub.

Try that and let me know.;)
