My noticeable improvements from V10 to V12 are

1. GPS initial lock time is better. It seems to lock indoors better now.
2. The Gallery renders the thumbnails much faster
3. Increased menu speed and less hang whilst browsing

I manage to install Route66 and Nav4All. Although I think Smart2Go has the best GUI and colors, its voice commands are not as good as Route66.

Does any know how much data is being used by?

1. Smart2Go
2. Route66
3. Nav4All

N95 Firmware

I am continually p1ssed-off that our mobile networks seem to enjoy being several versions behind when it comes to our ability in SA to upgrade the firmware.

I've followed the forumites experiences with upgrading to Firmware ver. 12.x.xxx with interest and had almost decided to use the instructions in this thread to upgrade from the installed ver. 11.x..xxx to the latest version, but am nervous about warranty issues if I change the product code to EURO-1.

So, I posted today on HelloPeter.com, and I have pasted in my complaint and MTN's response below ..... beware - they state that your N95 will NOT be covered by the warranty if you change the product code .... note the last sentence of MTN's response. The bold & underline emphasis is mine.

My complaint on HelloPeter:

http://www.hellopeter.com/the_comment.asp?recid=88765

COMPLAINT:
Monday 2nd July received my upgrade on my MTN contract, a N95 phone. It appears to use 'branded' MTN firmware, version 11.0.026. Using Nokia Software Updater, it tells me no later version is available. But a later version is available, i.e. N95 firmware version 12.x.xxx.

When (provide a date) will MTN release the new firmware version?

I know the phone can be reflashed with a EURO 1 product code, which then allows the firmware upgrade, but will this affect phone warranties?

Please specifically answer the two questions above.

It is sad that our networks are always several technological steps behind the real world!

RESPONSE:
The Version 12 software was supposed to be available online. We will have to find out from Nokia when it would be available. Flashing the device with a different product code is not advisable as warranty would not be covered.

Bloooody hell! I got a response from Vodacom/Vodafone support. They instructed me to go to a Vodacare outlet and let them do the upgrade for me (they have branded v11). This urks me even more, as it means they have the upgrade available, but have not released it to Nokia so it will appear in theupdater!

True, there will be no issues if you change your code back to the original.

However I don't see the point in doing this - as you will only end up changing it again when v13 is released, since it will be the same story.
