Vacancy: Remote Technical Escalation Engineer (JB6178)

The salary isn’t actually that bad for the ask.

The problem is you’ll be one person…as in the only one working alone non-stop.
Hence the emphasis in my post, not so much on money, more on working as ONE PERSON- which implies, non stop

Came here to say this. I pay a similar position up to 4.5x than what is advertised here.

As the saying goes, pay peanuts and you get monkeys.

Thank you for the feedback, to confirm you are paying between R180 000 - 270 000 per month to a candidate who manages escalations from T1 and T2? As that is 4.5x the advertised amount for this position.

I am happy to go back to my client to discuss the salary range and have it increased if necessary but the 4.5x amount seems excessive.

Good luck, hope you find your unicorn.

Overseas based MSPs use South Africans as slave labour .They want a unicorn that is an expert at everything but want to pay min salary.

Thank you for your comment, for an Escalations Engineer managing escalations from T1 and T2 what salary range do you feel is aligned?

This is the first hire, they will be bringing more Engineers on board as they expand their Tech team in South Africa. There is always the first hire unfortunately but the Escalation Engineer in the UK will also assist, it doesn't sit only on one person.

start with the Pounds equivalent in ZAR,
I've seen what these jobs pay, US East coast and were getting massively ripped off in ZA.

hell, no mention UK working hour's/ ZA working hours/ billiable/non billable per month/week,

At the beginning of this year , i went to an interview for a "Senior" systems engineer role .After wasting my time going to the physical premises and discussing the role for over 1 HR , the so called "IT Executive" 🤡 says the salary being offered was between 25K and 35k per month .After challenging his BS story , he came with some lame responses.

It's the same as when someone in the UK or US relocates and the company adjusts their salary to the resident countries market. We can argue this from many angles and yes, it would be great to earn the same as what someone in the UK or US earns, but we don't live there.

We live in South Africa, where an opportunity to work for an international company is often, the goal a person is wanting to achieve. Not at a UK salary but at a SA market related salary.

I don't disagree that it would be ideal to earn what they would have paid someone in their country but unfortunately, it's just not how I have seen it work.

They would work UK hours, public holidays negotiable to either UK or SA. This is a permanent position, currently hired through and EoR until an entity is established in South Africa.

Yes - I pay roughly 4.5x for those skillsets and experience that you require in a single person. R160k p/m is not excessive for that kind of skills and experience. This is due to our weak Rand mostly.

Go back to your Manager and ask him or her to check.

I'd stay away from this with a 10 foot pole. That salary, expectations, ambigous role and location sounds iffy. Could be it's a new startup or just a Hiring Firm that does B2B though.
same, I get people are desperate and when you need a job, you will take anything, especially with 35% official unemployment rate

and I sure as hell did my time in trenches like this, hence my questions regarding working hours, billable hours and taxes and
asking myself if its worth it when you getting paid short compared to your US or UK based colleagues, even get to see the local job adverts and pay scales, and do the maths, even with our weak exchange rate.

all I (and others) ask for is fairness, you pay the same equivalent as the UK guys, and not eat up everything in consulting fees and placement commissions for a role like this.
