Valheim

Has anyone managed to do a server migration and successfully transferred their world?

Seems the map, explored area, waypoints etc load successfully but none of the buildings load.

Yup we migrated to a dedicated server and everything came across.

I didn't personally do it, but from the discussion, I think that is exactly what was done.

Ok got it working. Just did a manual install of the server instead of using the install scripts.

Copied the 2 files over and everything is gucci.

I started playing Valheim with my kid this weekend. Not a bad game considering that I dislike the survival genre. The only two ‘survival’ games I like is DayZ and Generation Zero (which is a marvel since the latest patching), neither which places emphasis on progression.

Valheim is a good game, and I hope that it stays alive and well. The devs/pub coined it a bit with this title, and I cannot see why they shouldn’t have a more expansive roadmap in 2022.

Just going by the sales, Odin should will the secondary 'ideas' unless Odin is a greedy bastard. I mean, GabiN already wills anything which keeps players active on Steam.

The point being that I would like this game to grow than to die.

Been having some major desync issues with the game on multiplayer since latest patch (Apparently it's a common issue and I read somewhere it's the highest rated bug report - not sure if true) so I've been forced to run solo on my own world for a while until this issue is fixed.

I could build for a whole 5 - 10 minutes only to log out and in again and realize everything I've placed is gone lol. And half the interaction doesn't work (can't open chests, creatures stand still etc.)

Still, I'm enjoying the solo run and it's nice I can carry my progression back to the server once it's fixed.

I've had a few of those issues too. Even when playing on a locally hosted server, but the other guys playing didn't so it may have just been my connection.

Busy looking for a server, the other one got shut down.

Anyone hosting?

Also, in case you guys haven't seen this:

Just open up Valheim's launch options by right clicking on the game in your Steam library and selecting "Properties." Then paste this string of text into the "launch options" field, close the window, and launch the game.

-window-mode exclusive -screen-fullscreen

This will force Valheim to launch in true fullscreen mode, instead of fullscreen windowed, and I can personally vouch for the difference it makes. I have a GeForce RTX 3070, and my frames went from holding steady at 100-110 FPS in my base camp to 130-140 with the new launch options and true fullscreen. The original poster saw an even more dramatic improvement, going from 50-60 FPS in their base to 90-110. Make sure your monitor's native refresh rate is selected in Valheim's in-game graphics options to see the full effect.

I bought it today and already have almost 7 hours played and 3 mods installed: Clock, Craft Build Smelt Cook Fuel Pull From Containers and Equipment and Quick Slots.

I didn't see this discussed here yet but we ran into the desync issue over the weekend for the first time as we got to our first swamp biome, suddenly I couldn't chop logs or damage enemies so I Googled a bit and found the fix. It looks like the data rate limit of the game server is very low, I think by default it's 64KB/s, which with just discovering a new biome and now several new enemies, chopping trees and building we were hitting the limit and nothing new was coming or going through.

The fix is to edit a game dll and recompile it to raise the limit but I found a mod on NexusMods that does it without having to edit game code, what the mod does is raises the limit to 4x the original. We installed it today and went back to the same spot where the issue started and now I was receiving at 111KB/s and everything was working perfectly.

The last patch fixed the above issue:

"Better network bandwidth handling (should work better on low bandwidth connections & also use higher data rate if possible)"

Having fun with this, good time sink. Not sure how to find the black forest though.

I didn't set out to do it but I finished the current version of Valheim without dying.
