Hi Guys and Gals,

I have been frustrated to the nth degree with this VDSL upgrade. I have my line through Vox on a 20MB VDSL profile, I am able to sync 100% to the exchange but CANNOT authenticate on any DSL account.

http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthr...ne-syncing-but-ISP-account-not-authenticating

I have logged a ticket with Vox around this, but the engineer I am dealing with has not asked Telkom to Verify the line, and I have asked him twice to do so(Also Specified this in the case logged). I do not have the order number to verify the service myself as Vox did the upgrade for me.

Who can I speak to to get this done? I have tried to call Telkom, but I am wasting my life sitting on hold all the time.

Any suggestions would be REALLY GREAT!

:mad::mad:

Assuming you have a VDSL capable router? :)

Can you logon with the Telkom guest account? If NOT then your problems are not related to the line verification. Phone Telkom directly...ask them what they see, might be your only choice.

Yeah i have a Billion 8800NXL router, so it is definitely not the router :-)

I cannot authenticate with any account, not the Telkom Guest account, nothing. :-(

Remember a vdsl line needs to be verified with telkom before you can authenticate.

It is same thing you do when you do a self install for a new line.

Yeah I know...but I do not have the order number as Vox did the upgrade...hence my frustrations here :(

While that could be the issue, there's another possibility -

If the router has VLAN settings in the VDSL config (usually a separate place to the Internet Account details), enter VLAN number 835... everyone somehow neglects to mention this necessity.

Yip, that has been set...i followed the guide setup by another user on MyBB who has the Billion 8800NXL.

I think you have the settings wrong.

You need to create a new PTM PPPoE connection. Make sure that is setup as the default.
I had the same issue when I got my 8800NXL and then had to play around with it to get it to work.

I can save my config and then give it to you, you can load it and see whether that works? If so then just see what I did and you can redo it yourself - probably easier than trying to explain it all to you right now as I have forgotten exactly what I did from scratch :)

If you were able to dial up a connection but had no internet, then you'd need to verify your line. I had that issue as well :P lol

EDIT: YGPM

In your thread that you created there was a document that showed how to setup the new connection - which I have already done. I am syncing to the Exchange on a PTM connection, but cannot authenticate any account. If only someone on the other side of the phone would understand this..aaai.

I have the order number now, but holding for Telkom for 30mins is no fun, especially when the person on the other end has no idea WTF is going on. :(

I never posted a document on how to set up the 8800NXL. Never used it so not sure how accurate it is.

Check your inbox and give that a try. I know for a fact that works :D

So I tried the config from PsyCLown and that did not work either. Was on hold with Telkom for over a hour and then the call got cut...

Called Vox for feedback as my line is with them and they could not give me any feedback at all, even after they promised to get back to me.

PM'd TelkomZA yesterday morning, with no reply...feels like I am running in circles on fire while everyone just sits back and enjoys themselves - F!^$.

Had the same experience on my end, kept second guessing my config but seems the profile had still not been set correctly on their end.

Had several calls logged with them being closed without following up.

I eventually PM'd TelkomZA and also posted on Twitter and also followed up with Afrihost, eventually a technician came out and changed the profile, to be honest I'm not sure which of those channels resulted in the fix, but it's probably easier to deal with Telkom directly and they seem to respond quicker through the social media channels.

dose this router allow you to dial a connection from your pc have you tried that any errors .. ?

Did you guys manage to resolve this issue? I have the same issue, my modem says it syncs at 20mbps but attainable rate can go up to 38mbps. Says VDSL2, shows profile 17a. Yet I cannot authenticate even after creating a PTM profile.

What worries me, is that I am unable to set the VPI and VCI settings (there seems to be no option), when creating a PTM profile.

edit:

Note sure about SaskTel, but in the case of Bell, you also need to encapsulate the packets in VLAN 10.

For VDSL2, there is no VPI/VCI as there is no ATM (took them that long to get rid of that pesky useless ATM thing).

ADSL2 still uses ATM so still needs VPI/VCI

What modem are you using?
Was it working before?
Who is your line with?

I finally found out what the problem was. So it seems, ATM is used with ADSL/ADSL2+ and PTM is used with VDSL2

when setting up an ATM profile one must set VPI 8 and VCI 35
when setting up a PTM profile one must set the VLAN ID to 835 (I thought it was just VPI/VCI typo because of the numbers appearing to be the same).

I'm typing this message literally right after authenticating by selecting VLAN = Yes, and updating the ID to 835. Can't believe it took me so long

Hope this helps someone else out there.

My Router is a ZTE model ZXHN H168N and it costs about R720.
