Ah - thanks.

I'll try my older modem again then :/

Does getting it to sync lower work?

EDIT : Probably the wrong thread to ask, sorry - but why would noise be quite bad and attenuation be listed as excellent? No correlation between the two?

ANOTHER EDIT: I was wrong. Noise is 6.1-6.3 on the old one with 24.5 attenuation and Output power of 19dBm. So noise seems the issue rather than the router

Is the line stable with the Trendnet router though?

Decreasing the speed of the line will improve the SNR and that will probably help with stability.

Any thoughts on the ZTE H168N VDSL router? Its ICASA approved and seems quite compact + feature rich...?

On your routers WAN configuration, make sure that your "Layer2 Interface" is set to PTM and NOT ATM. Also make sure that 802.1P Priority is set to 0 and 802.1Q VLAN ID is 835

Quick question on the Billion 8800NXL :
Seems I'm limited to 16 wireless clients. Never had this problem on my Netgear ADSL router. Am I missing something or am I stuck with this ?

What are the Guest/Virtual Access Points for ?

/update - found the Global Max (set to 16) in Advanced and upped that to 32. Also setup an SSID for one of the Guest slots and connected to that one, but still would like to know what they are for

Hi all,

So I need to get myself a new router and am thinking about getting a VDSL one as I am contemplating upgrading to 20Mbit in the near future.

Seems people dislike the Zyxel and Pace ones, what other options are there?
Also between the Zyxel and Pace - which do you guys think is the better one?

Thanks,
Psy

EDIT: Make info easier for people to find. Credit for the nice, neat table goes to Splat.

Hi, sorry to bother, I saw you opted for the Billion 8800NXL Router
How is it with the VDSL, does it support the 17a profile?
Thanks

I love it! I have not had any issues with it at all, one got struck by lightning and got a replacement and I have literally forgotten about it. Super stable, no issues what so ever. Provides fantastic line stats when compared to previous routers as well as the WiFi is better than on some of the other routers I was using previously.

As for profile 17a support, I honestly do not know. I am not even sure which profiles we need support for in South Africa but I know for a fact that it will support a 40Mbit VDSL line. Had my VDSL profile set to 40Mbit for a while and it worked without issues.

Billion B-8800NXL issues

Hiya all,

Hoping those of you with a Billion B-8800NXL will be able to assist.
I am experiencing serious issues with LAN performance.
WAN (DSL/VDSL) functionality is working as expected.

WiFi connectivity is weak in adjoining rooms.
Have only been able to achieve between 30mbps and 60mbps throughput using iPerf.
This drops further to 10mbps to 30mbps in the adjoining room :(.
All in all way sub what I was getting on my 8-year old Netgear DG834GT (2.4ghz 54/108mbps b/g).

Spent the night trying to figure this out.
Factory reset it and set it up with the minimal config.
It's on the latest Firmware 2.32d.dh66.
The telling stats are these - major LAN latency.

Wireless pings to the router:
Code:
Ping statistics for 192.168.1.254:
    Packets: Sent = 24, Received = 24, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 1ms, Maximum = 227, Average = 52ms

Wired pings to the router:
Code:
Ping statistics for 192.168.1.254:
    Packets: Sent = 24, Received = 24, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 0ms, Maximum = 5ms, Average = 2ms

Have raised with the Billion folk. They are looking into it.
Thought that you all might be able to share experiences and steer me in the right direction.

Regards,
SD
