I really dont know why the Pace is not recommended. I been using mine on a 40 Mb line and it gives absolutely no problems. Been up for 3 weeks now without restart. Download speed consistent @ 4.9 MB / S

I'm curious why myself, but it does seem to be the general consensus.
Maybe it's just hate directed towards anything Telkom puts out.

Try setting up advance rules or load a firewall and run through a mikrotik that Pace will die.

Other than the AC - whats so special about the ASUS?

From what I read AC just has more bandwidth and hence would not provide much of an advantage over just using my old router as a range extender - in fact the latter will prob get better coverage in my large yard.

Asus routers are just badass. Epic range, never give ****. Tons of features. I actually just bought a billion B8800 to plug into my Asus RT-AC66u. The old billion Adsl modem power supply died. Thought I might as well future proof.

The chipsets which Asus use are only used by Asus AFAIK.

I am really enjoying my Billion, hasn't given me a days worth of trouble truth be told.

I use my Pace as a modem only, all other tasks handled by my firewall. The thing is solid for this purpose at least.

I use a Zyxel VMG1312-B, purely as a modem, with an Asus RT-N66U router.

Note that am referring mainly to the limited wifi capabilities, which is quite basic compared to the dual band Asus RT-N66U and newer "ac" routers.

But I am sure that not everyone needs that.

MY Internet connection keeps going down and up automatically, but I want to see the frequency. Line stats look ok (worse than my old Trendnet though?)

That SNR is touch and go, that's most likely the issue. The old router may have been better at handling noisy lines.
