VDSL router(s)

With that Zyxel just make sure that they have released the new firmware, I was looking at one and then noticed that quite a few users were complaining about the firmware issues - there was a lot of semi-official firmwares going around (released by Zyxel, although via email and not on their website). :)

If no new firmware on Zyxel's site, try get your hands on those firmware. You can try the Kitz forum.

I appreciate the response a lot !!

Any idea who stocks them?

Urgh.... So unnecessary to cough up 1700+ for a modem....

I'm not having issues but there is a new firmware on the website.
Should I update?

If you aren't experiencing any issues, I guess you don't have to.
Although I would :P

The 83 and 89 are the same, I think one has 802.11ac and the other 802.11n, whether the same firmware works on both I am not too sure though.

I appreciate it!

Heck I just can't justify R1300+ for a modem when I already have a very power home network setup.

I just want a normal nothing fancy modem...

I will return my Pace router as soon as I find a store that has stock of the TP-LINK W9980. The Pace is a POS!

Another question please forgive me.

I have a ADSL2+ Modem

Do I need a VDSL modem or can you use a normal ADSL/ADSL2+ modem?

You need a VDSL modem if you have a VDSL line, ADSL2 routers will not sync otherwise.

I read somewhere of a billion router which is multimode adsl/adsl2+/vdsl/vdsl2+

Which made me think since the connection physically is the same its basically the firmware that decides how the data it handled.

So then theoretically you can flash a router?

Or am I understanding this technology wrong?

The router has to have a chipset that can understand VDSL signalling.

The only router that I'm aware of that's ADSL that can be flashed to ADSL/VDSL is the TP-Link W8980 which uses the same chipset as the W9980, it is a bit of a bastard to flash though as you cannot do it through the web interface/console. You need to solder a serial cable to the board to do it

Ahhh that makes sense... Shiat.... Sounds like a mission.

i love such solutions

but for me, when hardware needs to be tampered with; i throw my hands in the air.

If I owned one I would first temper with the hardware before I buy a vdsl modem.

i spoke too soon!
Im having issues with wifi and USB ethernet connectivity. It seems like a problem with the DHCP and connections drop unless you use a static IP.
Not sure if its an Apple problem as all my computers and devices are Apple.

Spoke to Nology and they don't have any new firmware and are baffled.
Hoping to get a swop out that will sort it out.
