on the mweb firmware you can use any isp , i am using it atm.

Remember its illegal in s.a to lock to devices to a network anymore.

Hmm, I read somewhere it was locked to Mweb?

So what is the big deal with these FON routers then which Mweb are giving out to their clients? I think it still technically belongs to Mweb and not you? Although what else?

I think what you're thinking of is that it broadcasts 2 wifi networks, FON and your network name, and you can't turn off the FON network without flashing the non-isp firmware

Oh, is that the only silly thing about the Mweb FON router then?
Otherwise it is a pretty decent router?

yea its a good router just annoying that it gives out the FON wifi that if your in a flat anyone else can join on your wifi and use your bandwidth if they have a mweb account

Hey Guys, I am also looking to purchase a VDSL wifi router for home. I am upgrading to VDSL from next month and I currently am using the Netgear N300 DGN2200, any suggestions as to what VDSL router to purchase. I have heard bad things about telcoms pace router, looked at the Netgear options, but according to this thread a no no.

I believe Telkom will introduce a new VDSL modem (replacing the Pace) in a few months (subject to testing), with Gig on all ports, 802.11ac, and many other features. It is intended to be future-proof for at least the next 2 years.

So unless you need a VDSL modem right now, I would hold off a bit.

You can get a VDSL router with full gigabit and 802.11ac already.
Don't have to wait for Telkom.

Zyxel, Asus and Billion have IIRC. :)

I know a lot of people have said the Pace is crap, but I have found it very stable and my wireless coverage has been decent considering its placement in my house.
The only downfall of it is the inability to change DNS settings. I just do it at a device level now.
If you are using it just as a modem it should work well for you.

Reviving this one. How did the billion router go? For the price it seems to be a good buy?

Anyone else have some feedback regarding the VDSL routers/modems?

Still waiting, Tarsus have delays with their stock.
I should be receiving it (fingers crossed) on the 7th. Soo eager to get my line upgraded to a 20mbit VDSL line!

I will post feedback as soon as I receive my Billion VDSL router.

I have a TP-Link 9980 which I can confirm does not work on VDSL.

On ADSL it worked 100%, switching to VDSL it syncs perfectly but will not authenticate with the ISP (tried three different ISPs). Will however work in bridge mode authenticating with a windows PC.

Have you checked all those finnikey advanced DSL settings? or checked for a firmware update?

If the line sync's I do not see a reason as to why it would not authenticate.
I'd imagine some settings somewhere - I remember seeing a thread somewhere which had the settings needed for VDSL. I will try and dig it up.

EDIT:
VLAN must be enabled
802.1P must be 0
802.1Q must be 835

The TP-Link does not have an option to set 802.1P or 802.1Q (See emulator )- also if VLAN is enabled it asks for a VLAN ID - any idea what this would be?

What is interesting to note is that it authenticated in bridged mode just fine when I used my PC but when I used an existing TP-Link router (TL-WR941ND) connected to the 9980 in bridge mode it also never authenticates. This router was authenticating just fine when I was on ADSL (connected to a siemens speedstream 4200 in bridge mode)

If you goto Network -> WAN Settings

Select VDSL, enable VLAN ID and set that to 835
