Virgin Mobile continues growth

Like mushrooms, these guys. Growing quietly and in the dark. I can't actually remember seeing or hearing anything from them advertising wise for quite some time.

Don't you see these unlimited SMS campaign thing? It;s all over the media & TV.
I'm considering porting to VM when my MTN contract runs out in December. I just need a voice contract - mobile data is not important.

Honestly, no I haven't noticed it all.

Who knows. I am, however, very glad to see them growing, as competition is very good!

It's a pity they don't offer 3G etc. I guess that's what you get when you piggie-back on Cell C. Hopefully in the future they'll start offering more data products and some interesting phones that other networks don't provide.

I sent e-mail to VM few months ago and VM said that 3G and Internet will better before end of this year. I hope more users supports to VM. MTN and Vodacom are similar and nothing new for many years. Nothing interesting... SMS unlimited is very excellent.

I am glad for them, they have taken their own route and created their own identity this way. Ported to them in January - excellent service.
Had a problem receiving calls beginning of this month, phoned them on 6 June, received an sms on 10th confirming that they have found a bug in the porting system and it is being sorted. Received a call from cell c technical department later that afternoon to find out if all is sorted. He confirmed they were contacting all the customers that reported the problem to make double sure they have it sorted.
They kindly send me a reminder sms with the amount due, 3 or 4 days before charging my card - I did not ask for it, it happens though.
So far my cellular phone bill is about 40% lower than it was at MTN - which I anticipated, knowing when I use it most and having set call duration message on - noticed how many short calls of less than 30 sec was costing me 1 min airtime....
If you are after off-peak and weekend "freebies" - maybe not a wise move though.

Can you get unlimited SMS on prepaid?

The unlimited sms campaign - afaik - is a R149/month topup deal, which includes a handset. If you want to quit within 24 months, just settle the handset outstanding balance.
You do get R150 per month inclusive airtime though. This is charged at v0 rates - R2.35/min for the first 5 minutes then R1.55/min for the rest of the day. Per second from the first second.

You are on the smallest network, but access the largest network when there is not a cell c tower - for voice. Something to think about maybe:cool:

Mine is about 50% of my old MTN bill. When I looked at it in depth, it's cheaper for people using their phones during the day and about the same for after hours use. If you are someone who only uses on weekends and after hours then MTN or VC is better because of the free phones. Use it during the day and VM is much better (although not having 3G is a pain). It get better if you stick on a V100 month by month contract as that saves a lot more and the V500 is probably the equvilent of at least a R1200 VC or MTN contract.

One thing I also like is the VRewards discount thats added at the end of the month.

Also, yesterday being their 2nd birthday, I received an sms saying 'I heard a rumor that on this day, Virgin is having their 2nd Bday. We R rad we R bad and like to party just a tad. All Virgin to Virgin SMSs are FREE 4 today'
